back for another week at the 1/8ths
kills:
'01 Lightning w/mods not once but twice
built nova
and some waste of time rice.

got a new best time, 8.61@77.39mph with a 1.83 60ft

i have no idea how i lost a tenth off my previous time. only thing ive done since last race, was swap my rear shocks to koni adjustables.

pretty funny to hear the announcer yelling " up next we got a lil '91 syclone racing for FRIED RICE RACING!"

nothing like antagonizing the rice

Good kills! IMO with this 60ft you could get a bit better 1/8th times. May I ask what's the elevation of your track?

thanks trevor

the elevation is pretty much sea level since the track is at san diego stadium.

i think i should definitly be pulling lower times, or at least thats what i thought when i went there last week.

i didnt think about this till i was on the way home, but if i read correctly in the owners manuel doesnt it say you dont get full boost the first time?? i pretty much keep the truck off till im second in line. and have bags of ice on the IC. how many lbs of boost do you need to get the first time before the computer or whatever will give you full boost? maybe im only running down the track with 10lbs... i never checked the boost gauge when i was goin down the track to see how much i was getting.

either that, or im getting some really bad knock from the shitty 91 octane down here. next time at the track im gonna toss in some 108 and see what happens.

i cant really think of anything that i might be doin wrong. im launchin with about 6lbs of boost, in drive not overdrive, and i keep my foot in it till the end, not to mention i dont have a tailgate, spare tire or rear bumper. so i should be pulling better times, since im a lil bit lighter.
the weird part of it all is that my truck runs worse at night when its colder! i know that sounds weird, but the first week i was pulling 8.7's all day then once night came i was pulling 8.8's... then this weekend i was pulling 8.6's all day and 8.7's at night. so whats the deal there??? too much moisture in the air?

the mods i have on my truck are, a 3" catback w/ATR muffler, ATR black beauties, conrad cap/rotor, jabsco ic pump, walbro 255, and a K&N.

by my next time out i hope to have my AFPR, 3bar and ultimate put in.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the colder air could leaner your truck, which could result in more knock retard. Anyway this is true only for drastic temperature changings.

The skip the first time boost limit you have to reach 8psi once.

Well I would try Putting in some higher octane Like 114 Leaded only like 2-3 gallons thou. And do u have a after market boost gauge grab 1 of those and so what i have heard the ATR boost regulator is bad ass i will be getting one after my fuel pump. Then i will change it to 19lbs of boost.

ok well since i dont have a scantool yet, and im takin my sy back to the shop to get the bumper and the rest of my stuff put on, i wont really have time to do any changes before the next races.

i wanted to get my ultimate installed before i go to the track again, but i think im gonna hold out on that, and go back using some race fuel. the first week i forgot to fill up before goin to the track and had to use shitty arco gas and ran 8.7's. this week i filled up with mobil, and i ran 8.6's so that kinda proves my theory that some gases are better than others. so if i go with half 91 and half 108 in my tank ill see if that drops my times. i have noticed that my boost has been all over the place and doesnt hold a steady number when im on the freeway, which could be the result of bad knock from the lower 91oct gas. i still dont understand why they dropped the oct to 91. if the bad knock and shitty gas mileage continues, i may be lookin at a alky kit in the future.

joe, other than higher octane, is there anything else that will reduce knock?
Generally speaking, reduced timing or richer fuel mixture if your running lean.
You may just need to bump up the fuel pressure a little.

Knock can be caused by many things. In fact, I am battling a Knock retard right now and not having much luck.
