Since my Typhoon is undergoing a Bowtie buildup that's taking forever!!! I figured i would show the Syclone some love. Basically i have all the parts from the Typhoon that got me into the low 10s sitting in a pile. So i had a better stronger short block built and im dropping it into the Syclone. I am attempting to make this a running truck in 3 weeks! This way it will be running for the NASTE meet on the 23rd. I have enlisted the help of a few fellow members here to get it done. You know who you are and thank you for the help !!

Today was the disassemble day. All the stock parts were removed in order to get ready for the new motor and turbo kit. Lot of cleaning of the engine bay and some repainting this weekend..

Loads to do: Sump a new factory tank, Install new fuel system, clean and repaint engine bay and frame, install Big Stuff 3 EFI, 4l80e Typhoon tranfer case, Front mount intercooler,
Razor alky, Msd ignition and coil, New converter, Caltracs, Sports machines A arm kit, Ect Ect Ect.

I will update this post with lots of pics so you can see whats going on at the shop.

The bed is full of some things that have to go in. Lots of parts are out for powder coat

Sounds like a plan Frank! I'm ready for the results, your Typhoon was a proven token of your craftsmanship. I'll be installing my second BS3 standalone harness in a friends Ty starting next week. Oh how I can't wait.....let the fun begin

Re: 9 sec syclone build!

Not Exactly the same. Motor has a bit more compression. 9:1. Block has smaller bore and is short filled. Running electric water pump. Plans are for e85 this time however I'm going to run the c16 first since the tune in the ecu is ready to go for c16. I'd like to se a comparison after switching to the corn.

This truck has a monster custom stereo in it must weight at least 250 pounds. I will attempt to get her into the 9s in that form. Only thing I'm removing is the AC. For now. !! I might put it back in at a later date if I build a new set of headers to accomadate for it.

No cage so track rentals only. Going to make it difficult to test so I'll be strapping it to the dyno after it's running in a few weeks.

Over the winter it will get a custom sheet metal intake manifold. And larger t-body.

That's the plan anyway. With work and kids who knows.

Re: 9 sec syclone build!

Made more forward progress today.

Painted engine bay and brake booster. Replaced idler arm.
Removed the stock nasty gas tank.
Sumped a new stock tank and coated the inside with protective coating for use with E85
Installed -10 new return so i can reuse the factory pump and lines if needed later for NOS or whatever!!!!

Powder coat parts came back today i couldn't be happier with the results..

Next up is battery relocate under the bed on pass side

Cut the front core support to accommodate Front mount intercooler

Looking good.. What's the skinny on that tank coating?? Is it a must for E85??

Its a polymer coating that prevents rusting of the tank. REDKOTE is one brand but there are other manufactures. Alcohol based fuels can cause rusting due to there nature to attract water or condensation. Since this truck isnt going to be driven all year round I thought id take one extra step to conserving the new tank. If not id have to switch back to regular gas if storing for long periods. Some debate this issue! Including myself but better safe than rusty!!

Re: 9 sec syclone build!

Thanks for the info Frank.. Since you are successful at going fast and I'm still trying to get my truck together would you mind if I pick your brain a little on E85 vs. injector stuff??

Re: 9 sec syclone build!

Well we have been busy last 2 days. The heads were installed valves adjusted Dry fit all the components. I spent some time ordering new fasteners for final assembly. The rest of the parts came back from powder coat today. Some brackets the valve covers and i had the blower box done too.Looks cool with the wrinkle coat.

Got new engine and converter 4L80e installed in the truck! I forgot just how difficult that process was. Tight fit !!! Also installed rear diff cover and brace..

Next up will be big stuff 3 mounting and wiring installing all engine accessories turbo kit and intake!!

Have to order the drive shaft since it will be shorter!!

Re: 9 sec syclone build!

Yo Frank, What size injectors are you gonna run with this build and e85?? I have a stock block build and was hoping to run e85 through it but have been reading that my 75#ers would be too small for my build... Any experience would be killer... Thanks!!

You have to figure in about 30% more fuel for e85. I plan on running 120# injectors for the e85. That should be good for up to 750 HP For reference I maxed out 74# injectors on race gas in my typhoon running mid 10s and stepped up to 84#. 84# would be good for around 550 600 with e85. Not good enough for my combo on corn.. So I'm going to 120#.
Fuel pump is the bigger issue. You'll need plenty of pump for e85.
