a fun, yet sad, yet informative night (long... very long)

These trucks are cursed
well after installing a 160* thermostat, my friend and i decided to go for a lil test drive, to make sure everything is good.

on our way back we spot a 5.slow speeding around like a bad ass. so we catch up and ride along side trying to instigate a lil street race, but traffic is too heavy so its a no go.

finally we get a red light and i start reving the engine at him, he rolls down his window and says "you wanna go?" and i say "fuck yeah! its on!" the light turns green and we're gone, i didnt even bother launching, but before we even got to 60, a car pulled out from a side street and we both slowed down.

we get around the car, and mustang guy says theres an open stretch up ahead we'll do it there. once we get there, i have my friend get out, to do the traditional race start. i got one foot on the brake and one on the gas. GO!!! i launched with about 0lbs of boost, and a split second into the race i hear "snap! ping! pow! ding... ding... ding..." followed by some major rear wheel hop, and a shit load of vibration up front. right off im thinkin oh shit this cant be good.

so i pull over, and my friend comes running up to my truck screaming dude what the fuck just happend?!?! i get the flashlight out and try to look under the truck, but its pitch black outside and my damn truck is too low to look under.

i start it up, the engine runs fine, no probs there, i go through all the gears, ok tranny is good. put it in neutral and start rolling, "clink! ding! grind!" ok, so now im thinkin its the transfer case, so i get underneath and check the propshaft, which now suddenly moves freely in all directions and has about 2 inches of rotation play in it.

to shorten this up, we had to drive home about 8 miles at about 5 mph.

now comes the informative part. once we got the truck up on jacks, we started checkin out the propshaft, when my friend says "dude! wtf? your tranny bolt is practically coming out and your missing the one on the other side! i guess that solves the mystery of where my sy/ty shift went!

anyway, we pulled the proshaft out, the boot was still intact and not torn, but the prop rod was just spinning inside the boot. i popped that lil boot seal off, and give a lil pull on the prop rod. the rod came right out of the boot, followed by 6 ball bearings. now ive never heard of a propshaft breaking like that. im guessing it just wasnt packed right.

since its not that damaged, im thinkin possible rebuild? but before i got a chance to even consider that, my friend cut the boot open, cause he wanted to see how it worked. hahaha oh well.

after doin a lil bit of searching on the net for propshafts, i came across "brandons heavy duty propshaft" does anyone have one of these? theyre only 375, and it has to cardon joints, eliminating the whole boot set up. if anyone knows anything about these please post it, id like as much info as possible before i throw down that kind of money. thanks for reading!

I had a local shop rebuild mine for 200 bux or so. May have been cheaper than that. Has held up great and I abuse mine more than the average owner.

If you can't find a local place and just want it rebuilt - lemme know and i'll have it done for you. The shop is owned by a former Sy guy.

Tyler, do you know the number of that place? I am going to try to get mine done in a couple of weeks if I can find some help (hint hint ). Could one pull the shaft while the truck is on the ground or does it need to be jacked up? TIA
