a little help on defending the syclone's good name

i have a friend that keeps on telling me that the ford SVT lightenings are the fastest stock truck ever made. Of course being a GM guy, i argue back that his statement is false, and that because i have spent numerous hours researcing/drooling over syclone/typhoon pictures and stats that the Syclone is a faster stock truck. what is some info i can present to my friend that will open his freaking eyes? any websights that he needs to see?

depends on if you are talking "fastest" or "quickest." Lightnings are faster than Sy/Ty's as I believe they have a top speed of 140 or so. Sy/Ty is 126.

I think we all know who the winner is in the quickest category.

Who wants to drive that fast in a truck anyway?

My buddie has a 02 , very nice and quite fast, i have never owned a ford but i would consider getting one of those.

i have driven in my friends lightning and he beat the hell out of it for about 5 min strait. fom a roll, a stock lightning will beat a stock syclone. but try to launch a 2wd truck...thats where the "quickest " part comes into play. stoplight to stoplight there is no comparison...syclone all the way.

Have read an article about the new lightning with the +50 hp option.
i thought this one goes from o-60mph in 5,6 sec.
that isn't as fast as a stock sy.

but maybe í am wrong about this.

I have beaten a stock 01 L from about a 20 roll and I was having boost issues, think I might have gone to 12 psi on spikes. No BS and talked to him afterwards and said it was a legit run. Don't get me wrong I didn't walk on him but got him on the jump about a car length and he was slowly coming up, I mean slowly. Figured if I had good boost it would have went a little better, like he wouldn't have came up on me. The L's are fast and sweet looking but still no SY. Actually was thinking about a L before the SY, think I made the right decision 8)

By the way, this was a re-match to my first kill in sy112 with the L. We actually had 2 runs, killed him from a light then we tried another from a roll. He did much better this time, I figure cause he was clean and sober. Even with me running better boost he was coming up on me. Got up to maybe 65 mph or so then we got out of it. He probably would have taken me in the 1/4 though

My L went 13.7 @ 100 bone stock w/ 700 miles on it. The 01's and up are a tenth or two quicker( Depending on your part of the country :wink: ). They are a good run for a stock Sy at the strip, but at the stoplight, on the street, the L will be seeing tailgate!

Yeah I really like the L's but you have to do a lot of track prep stuff to get them to get some of these numbers people are posting. What is really cool about SyTy's are the street and strip numbers are nearly identical. So if I go to the track and burn a 13.5 or so then I know I can handle any mid 13 car on the street. Cause "most" street vehicles can't run what they did on the track. My friends L is truly fun to drive, damn thing FEELS like it wants to be drove like you hate it :lol: ::baddevil:: I love some of these "wars" that crank up over syty's and L's. I think what adds to the fire is that most of the people that are driving L's can't even remember what a syty is so they get the big head over them being the fastest truck. I imagine it hurts the ego a bit to find out you were upstaged over 10 years ago. Can't wait to get mine lined out and start getting some track times posted.

friend has an 02 L 500 miles took to the track 2.0 60ft. 13.9 at 98mph. My Sy, 113K miles, 1.8 60ft 13.8 at 93mph. if you want mag stuff just search on yahoo you can find a lot of old motor trend and other mags that ran the sy when it first came out and the times will always be faster than the 02 L's of today in the same mags. Trust me i have looked.

I'll have too look in one of my truck magazine's but I believe that if Ford does come out with it concept 04 Lightning the debate will be over. Once I find that article I'll post it. I believe it was in Sport Truck a month or so ago.

Personally the coolest truck that GM has built to date is in Austraila. I forget what they call it, but here you would call it "EL CAMINO". It is a SS with a LS1. Why did GM kill the El Camino here in the States anyways?
