Are all the wires hooked up?

Try starting the truck up,and disconnect the positive battery cable to see if the truck keeps running. If it does, alt is good, battery bad. If not, alt is bad.

Re: Alternator not charging

so i was looking around the alternator area there is a 10 amp fuse that was popped. any reason why this would happen I'm gonna go buy one and replace it but don't want it to happen again so is there anything that i need to look at or pay attention to as why it popped the fuse. my batter hold is broken so battery might move around while i drive.

Re: Alternator not charging

That fuse is for your intercooler pump. Do what I said, just to make sure it's actually your alternator.

Oh ok, I'm currently at work now so can't get to it but I'll do that as soon as I get home

Re: Alternator not charging

Bring your alternator to Vatozone. ..oreallys or crapa....they will test it for free. ..

Re: Alternator not charging

Two alternators going dead so quickly seems unlikely. You mention the battery is loose in the tray. What connections do you have? There should be a red or power wire directly to the battery or perhaps to the starter and from there to the battery. There should also be a solid connection to the frame for the battery. The alt should also be grounded properly. Have you verified these connections are intact and secure? If any of them are loose, your battery will not charge properly.

Re: Alternator not charging

Don't buy a remanufactured alternator from autozone. They are crap. Spend the money and buy a new one. I went through 3 autozone alternators on my other car before I bought a new one online. One cought fire. DONT USE AutoZone reman alternators... unless it is on a FORD.

They aren't all bad, I have one on my Durango and it'd been going strong for 4 years now.

Lmao "unless it's on a ford"

I'm in Vegas currently my girl brought me on a spontaneous trip for my bday but last time I was with the truck I was getting 11.99v at the battery when truck was running

Re: Alternator not charging

There are two little fuse looking things that are one two wires coming off the back of the alternator. Check to make sure those are in good shape. One of mine was messed up a bit and it gave me issues.

If it's those two on the picture then they seem to be okay

I do have these wires hanging from under my steering column ones brown/white and another tan/white and another that has two orange whires and there's a pic of my fuse box all fuses are okay

The first pic, those are it. Are you sure it's not the battery just isn't charging? There should be around 14 volts with the engine running. Usually 10-11 volts with the engine off. Maybe you have a dead cell or two. Not sure what thise plugs go to, I'll go look at mine later and see where they go.

I'm sure it's not the battery I took it to work an tested it. Tested good and I'm not getting 14v to battery with engine on I only get like 12v 11.98v most of the time which is why I thought it was alternator but alternator tested good today

Ya, it's got a Turbo
Re: Alternator not charging

Take a test light and see if it "lights" when you touch the B+ stud on the back of the Alternator. Truck doesn't need to be running for this test. If yes, then unplug the 2 wire connector and with the ign ON see if the test light "lights" when you touch the terminals.

And, while I understand the logic behind disconnecting the battery on a running car, this is old skool logic, and a VERY dangerous test. Doing this on any vehicle that runs an ECM runs the risk if a voltage spike that can easily fry circuits. An alternator is capable of producing well over 50 volts...
