Another front license plate solution

I happen to have a 2004 Buick Rainier and had an extra front license plate holder...the angle of the bumper, from left to right was perfect. There is a little bit of a gap on the bottom, but not a big deal to me. Unfortunately you have to drill a couple holes...

If wanna wanna get creative with the gap, it would definitely look factory.

I'm not sure what this is the solution to. You still have to drill holes in the cover (if you don't already have them).

My solution was just not to install one. It looks gay. I'd rather pay the ticket once a year
then have a front plate.

Plus, if you have to drill two NEW holes because they don't match up exactly, they you're messing up a very expensive part.

X2 I had a license plate on my bumper looked ugly as hell, had bumper redone .68steiny not a bad idea for the license plate holder.

I don't think it's a bad idea. If you already had holes there it's o.k. I have a kit from Capt Morgan and will probably end up having to use it when I get pulled over for no front plate.

Code what?
I don't mind obeying my state law, I avoided it for years. I don't have time to worry about getting stopped. One thing I hated the most about the factory spot is just that it looked out of place there. The plate requires being shaped to conform with the front bumper. Then I came up with my solution, drill a 2" hole, and use a tow hook/gopro mount for the plate attachment

I went back and forth between the ideas on here for months...I realize I am doing some drilling which can possibly degrade that front cladding, but I feel it gives more of a factory look and the cladding can be repaired....hell a piece of my cladding went flying off at 100mph last week...housed!

You could mold that part in and make it look like it was supposed to be there.

Anyway in the end, it is just personal preference, just offering another alternative.

I live in the city of Chicago.. so this truck is more of a mark right now, with the loud exhaust. I got pulled over last week because I forgot to hook up my brake lights. In the end, they gave me not even a warning and said "cool truck..what are you doing with that laptop and all those wires in there?" ...I was doing some Code 59 tuning...they thought it was cool.

Re: Another front license plate solution

Months ago I looked at several of the "flip license plate" holders which work differently according to manufacturers:

-manual type, that slide in a track, and then flip-up vertically
-motorized type, that does the above (via key fob or ignition switch)
-manual type that "swivel" via a hinge arrangement
-and a magnet/quick disconnect holder that sets kinda offset from mid-center of bumper

In the end I never follow through, but in hindsight maybe getting pulled over for a ticket, and then
having a front plate "appear magically" would only cause more problems/concerns with law enforcement
(which reminds me of a nearby vicinity where the following tickets are issued 8 times the national norm);

-Obstruction of rear view mirror (hanging dice/air freshener)
-Tail light bulbs brighter on one side/illegal aftermarket taillights or Turn signal blinking too fast
-Non-standard lighting (headlights or neon lights) or improper illuminated license plate
-License plate too big (obscuring writing on plate)
-Improper modification of vehicle ground clearance (bumper height too low, or too high)
-Improper frame and suspension modification (tow bar brackets)
-Speeding (post sign covered by overgrown bushes/trees)
-No right on red at midnight or California stop observed
-Red light vs yellow caution (or traffic cams)
-Seat belt violation or improper harnesses
-Improper lane change or improper signaling lane change (too abrupt, or too long)
-Improper Tinted windows
-Improper start from a stopped position
-Tailgating, or going too slow in traffic
-Crossing a yellow line (after passing a car)
-Not cleaning the snow off all the windows properly
-Illegal exhaust
-Poorly loaded truck, truck bed or unsafe vehicle condition (or having hatch open)

Re: Another front license plate solution

Well, i'm patiently waiting..... in Texas a 25 year old vehicle can be registered as a classic or antique which has several benefits. The first is you only have one plate to display that you have to renew once every five years, and the second, is there are no more registration or inspection stickers, in fact, inspections are not required for antique vehicles. The requirements for classic or antique are the same, but according to TXDOT, classics are allowed to be driven more frequently.

I'm waiting for the magic 25 year mark as well - I'll still have to do safety inspection in VA but no more emissions!

Re: Another front license plate solution

i had contemplated using a high grade 3m double sided tape we use at work, ( a sign company) we use them on many flush mount letters that stay outside all year round, i just cant see myself drilling holes and not liking it and ending up with un wanted holes. but i know out here in chicago/illinois even the forest police write citations for no front plates at the woods etc.. blah

Re: Another front license plate solution

Why ruin a $600 bumper cover when all you have to do is spend a little time doing research and you can find a solution. Even the flip plates would work. Just don't flip it except at the car show or the track or wherever you're not driving on public roads.
