Is this your bush?
So what is the best turbo to upgrade to with stock everything? Who's got what and the ups and downs of doing so?

Re: best turbo upgrade with stock everything

I'm curious to know how the new Sportsmachines turbo cartridge performs (http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=95470) with their 3" down pipe and then compare that to a 20G turbo.(w/ 3" dpipe)

They should try to get all three on the dyno for comparison:

Stock
20G
SM

It would be a worthwhile test. :2cents:

Yes, we have been wanting to do this ever since we started to work on the billet wheel..... but finding the time to do so has been elusive. Its been an extremely busy summer between the shop, products, Nats and everything else. We will do it as some point, just a matter of when.

The billet wheel would be a good improvement over stock.

So 20g is way to go? Do they use factory coolant lines on the turbo or do they just get plugged?

My stg 1 is the best option for those wanting a true stock upgrade. do some searching and you will find dozens who are more than happy with the result. pm or email me for more info.

Re: best turbo upgrade with stock everything

I would say a 20G turbo w/a 10 CM turbine housing. That would breath better than a stock turbo yet spool just as fast as a stock turbo. Still think the compressor wheel is too small, a 57 mm compressor wheel would be the way to go.
A 20G turbo w/a 14 CM housing is too big for a stock torque converter especially if you are running a catalytic converter, slow to spool turbo:tdown::tdown:.:2cents:

So, for a completely stock everything, Better turbo would be a 20 g "H" turbine wheel, 57 mm compressor wheel & a 10 CM turbine housing. But that would be a custom turbo.

There would be no down sides for this kind of turbo IMO

God speed sells the 20g super td06 with a 10cm wheel. Anyone ever used them? Turbo iS for a Mitsubishi gsx, talON. MITSUBISHI PRODUCT. Do the turbo feed lines need to be replaced also with the use of a 20g

Re: best turbo upgrade with stock everything

This should bolt right on, problem I see is it uses the stock sized turbine wheel, but it has a larger 60-1 compressor wheel.
The exhaust will be choked too much.

This is the better center section, but you would need a compressor cover to fit the 60-1 wheel & have your 8 CM turbine housing machined to fit the larger "H" wheel.

Waller did mine and it's been outstanding.

Re: best turbo upgrade with stock everything

Does this turbo utilize the same housing or is it bigger than stock because I have the rpm cai and the tube to the upper intercooler with my bov on it.

Re: best turbo upgrade with stock everything

The Waller turbo is using your stock turbo & modifying it.

Send him your turbo or possibly purchase a core from him.
He would machine the compressor housing to fit a 57 MM compressor wheel, the one step further, would be to machine a stock turbine housing to install a larger better breathing "H" turbine wheel.

So in short, you can retain your RPM C.A.I. & charge tube w/your B.O.V.

Here is a pic of my 10CM turbine housing machined to fit a larger "H" turbine wheel. You can do the same to your stock 8CM turbine housing.

Here is a stock compressor housing.

Here is a stock compressor housing modified by having a 3" billet inlet made & welded to the housing & then machined to fit a larger 60-1 compressor wheel.

Modified left, stock right

I could name a couple that are not happy, not because the turbo upgrade you provided. Getting the trucks back from you after two years and 8 grand later just to have a non drive able truck returned to them. Then an engine rebuild later and cleaning up after all your Mickey Mouse shit this particular truck has been greater than ever spending a $1 for you to do shit to it.

Belee dat!

Re: best turbo upgrade with stock everything

The OP asked about having stock everything. Setting aside tuning (which I would say is the first mod to mske), I would highly suggest the Sportmachines drop-in wheel. No machining, muss or fuss, and you are supporting a vendor (look at how much SM has done for us).

Re: best turbo upgrade with stock everything

That should be a decent upgrade w/no machining involved.

Still does not address the exhaust issue of being choked w/the small stock turbine wheel.:2cents:
