i have a blow off valve on my truck i got it that way i thinks it is HKS but i am not for sure i was wondering what is up with these things. i was thinking of taken it off (dont have a hose to replace it) but then decided i will ask you guys and see waht you have to say. it seems like every time i get something i buy it and then decide to double check and you guys tell uh yeah that was stupid :rotf: . so is this better than boost controller do they vary in boost level or what

thanks brandon

Re: Blow off valve

Hey Fot,
The blow off valve is usually seen in vehics with manual transmissions. A blow off will release pressure when the throttle body is quickly closed and there is a vacuum downsteam of the throttle body... that fooooop, fooooop sound you hear between gears when someone is shifting a manual tranny vehic. The BOV will help keep boost spikes from having negative effects on the compressor impeller (cavitation, backflow, stalling, etc.).
A pop off valve will release pressue above a set level - say you run 15 pounds of boost and want to vent if you reach 17, you set the POV to release at that point - can be used as an insurance policy for things going wrong.
Whether you need a BOV depends on a number of design issues with your build, and on your driving style - if you're the type of driver who constantly gets on and off the throttle at high boost levels, then maybe it can help you. Otherwise, ????

I'm sure the other guys here will have some good 'real life' input for you. If you're just getting started, there are a lot of other much more important things to look at before you worry about a BOV.

Hope this helps.

Re: Blow off valve

Hey Brandon,
With you included, I think there are 4 or 5 of us now... Once the weather gets a little nicer maybe we can plan a Saturday or weekend get-together.

Re: Blow off valve

Sorry to get this thread on a different topic....
Well, I just did a search in the "members list" and there are 11 of us in Oklahoma! How many are still active I'm not sure. I'll have to email everyone and see if they want to get together.

Re: Blow off valve

I got a blow off valve from a Mits. Evo. I like BOV, just because I like setting it off next to people and watching them their selfs. I was looking into getting a HKS, they sound nice, but really, on a stock truck their pointless. Just on the side, I live in Oklahoma on the EAST SIDE(throw it up, lol), I have had my truck for about 6 months and want to see some other trucks!
