Blown Propshaft boot repairs?

Found out the Green Ty I bought came with teh optional upgrade, blown propshaft boot.
It is a Dynotech shaft, has fresh Dynotech sticker on it, so I am thinking it is a replacement shaft to begin with.

I took it to a local driveshaft joint and the mgr just called me.
He says the CV joint is not turning smoothly and he thinks the "Balls" are pitted and not rolling smoothly.
He also said if they jsut do the boot repair their is no guarantee it will balance perfect and stay balanced.

Basically it is gonna be $140 to completely rebuild the CV end, reboot it and balance the shaft.

Does that sound like a good price?
He also said it would be ready by 5pm. so I guess its not bad for same day service.

I try not to...but I'm bored...wife's back in the states...so it's either stay at work late and post or...go home to a bed post....err...well...

What's a new one from dustan or brandon run...or one from dynotech..about $230 if I recall right...Same day service for $140....

Try about $490, I can tell you haven't priced parts for a SyTy lately...

I know that seems to be the price I remember hearing from others. I am looking to have mine rebuilt - well balanced and I might as well just have 'em freshen it up while it is out and the guy I talked to was thinking around $200. $140 and same day return can't beat it.

Few miles down the road, you'll have the same damn problem.

I'd upgrade it. Don't replace, FIX... and the stock part is a POS IMO.

So spend $250-350 now I say. I wanna say Dick's Driveshafts had a good replacement as well. www.dicksdriveshaft.com I'm almost positive they have a bolt in replacement for Syty's/Astros/Bravadas.

I had the whole front end of my propshaft replaced with one of those neato U-joints with a springy shaft. I never have to worry about the boot again, and it can still expand and contract a bit (theoreticallly speaking, the distance should change slightly as the suspension moves up and down). It was $250 from Lay's Transmission in Toledo. I think my post with details is in the Lounge if you want to search for it... You can check local tranny/bigrig places and see what they can do...

I have the Dynotech replacement shaft and everything else looked to be in good shape so i opted to just fix the broken shaft for now and upgrade later. Figure I will be able to resell this shaft for at least the $140 or just keep it as a back up.

After hearing about vibration problems from some of the spicer conversions I don't have the faith to make the jump just yet.

That and I don't have the $490 to drop right now. I am paying Ins on 2 typhoons and still waiting to repay some debts from my newest Ty. If they hear I am out buying $500 in parts and not repaying my loans I may get a broken log... LoL well its my sister but still she wouldnt be too happy.

You spoke of the front propshaft changing length ever so slightly when the front suspension goes up and down. I just recently began having a problem of a very slight popping coming from under the truck intermittently when going over slight bumps. Doesn't do it going around corners unless there is a bump in the course of the turn. It's not the typical torsion mount clunk. Whole suspension has been rebuilt about 7 months ago. Not the ball joints.
Could this be my front prop's CV joint taking a dive? I guess I should remove it and see if the popping goes away, huh? Any of you guys notice this when a prop went bad?
I also noticed that I have a clunk when accelerating from a coasting condition. Found this while breaking in my new pads. Greaaaat. Nothing like dumping several hundred into a truck I just dumped a few grande in :evil:

I had a clunk kind of sound as well.
After doing the poly sway bar bushings I did not grease the endlinks and they were actually binding making a popping clunking noise over gentle bumps.

I figured it out when I stopped & got out of the truck and leaned on the bumper it made the noise. recreated it over and over till i realized what I had done.
