Re: boost

the rod pulls on the diaphragm in the wastegate. The spring is what the rod pulls against normally, otherwise the diaphragm gets inflated by the boost from the solenoid.

Your diaphragm could be totally shot, or your lever inside could have seized.

Test the diaphragm by getting a vacuum pump on the nipple going to the actuator and see if it moves. If that is ok then you might have a seized wastegate inside the housing. How easy is it for you to turn the wastgate on the turbo? It should move real easy.

That is what I had but the opposite way round - I had mine seized open so made no boost.

If that's the case then you are looking at a new turbo, or a totally external w/g setup with external boost controller. For what it's worth, they are generally much better controlled anyway. Search for Greddy Profec Spec B II.

Hope you find the problem!

ok, so i went out there and did the vacuum pump with the actuator. the rod moves fine. but i have a question about the lever(on the houseing) that the rod hooks up to.
when the lever is down.. the wastegate should be shut, if i'm right.. and when the lever is toward the fire wall. it should be open(meaning Less, if any boost?).. but even if that moves don't the actuator still have something to do with now much boost it would be running.. if i hook up the rod to the lever.. and turn the rod to tighten it. i would get Move boost cuz it would be holding the lever shut harder. ami right? so i dont think anything is seized or anything.. i also do have a boost valve boost controler. with the 0-16 psi spring in it.. and its at about half way witch would prolly be like 8 lbs or around that..

Re: boost

how tight the lever is has nothing to do with how much boost control you get - it just makes a poor system even worse; the spring / actuator can't open when it wants so you would get overboost and a code immediuately. You didn't mention getting any of those yet by the way - get any? That lever has to move easily so the weak diaphragm/spring combo can do its job.

Moving the lever towards the firewall reduces boost, moving it towards the front of the truck will keep it shut.

Try moving it all the way to the firewall and fixing it there and trying to build boost. It shouldn't build fast/at all. Be careful obviously.

Where are you taking the "over boost signal" from? to get it to the controller to get it to the solenoid to open the actuator?

You might find you haven't got the boost signal going to the solenoid hence that is why it is building full boost the whole time. Something doesn't sound hooked up right to me.

The ONLY thing in your system that is controlling boost is that lever (unless you have an external wastegate you didn't mention). What is moving the lever?

Re: boost

ok well i think i have it all undercontrol now.. my buddy and I found a Nut that fits the rod at the local true value.. and we found out why it was overboosting.. and i will fix all of it next weekend. and let ya know the news. :)
