Bulk connection at firewall question

Re: Bulk connection at firewall question

Is the firewall bulk connection on driver side the same as 1991 s10 4.3l z model?

No. Typhoons have some special stuff there like for the Electric Level Control. There are some other differences too.. Like 3 or 4 IIRC.. Not hard to adapt if you have both wiring diagrams..

Wondering if anyone has a diagram to connect a syclone engine harness to the firewall connector on a 1991 s10

Any help would be greatly appreciated.....I have a syclone engine with engine harness, ecm, fusepanel and cab harness ....im going to be installing it in a 1992 s10 4.3l z model

Re: Bulk connection at firewall question

A 1991 Syclone engine harness should match up to a 1992 4.3 Pick-Up bulkhead (C100) harness with no problem or changes.

BUT: There WILL be differences on the C110 Connector. C110 is the white 10-pin connector adjacent to the ECM that interfaces the engine harness to the Instrument Panel (IP) harness. Boost gauge, tach, Antilock light, CRANK signal (on the TBI, not on the SyTy), Low Turbo Coolant light. If you can get hold of a SyTy supplement, the wiring diagram in the back shows all 10 wires and functions for the Sy harness.

If you can't figure out what the C110 wires in the 92 are, post them up with the cavity and wire color in that cavity. I can tell you what they do just from that. The connector has little letters on it for the Cavity Position. A-B-C-D-E, then directly across from E: F-G-H-J-K. (No "I"). Some will be the same. Pink/blk in D for example is hot in RUN or START, the ign turn-on to the ECM and things like relay coils, injectors, boost solenoid, etc.

This is what I remember without looking anything up. Any other questions, ask Damian. He knows more than I do.

Re: Bulk connection at firewall question

Being a 5-speed, I'm not sure the IP harness (truck-side) will have the TCC wiring in it. Tan/blk stripe, and small ga purple.

Look in the ALDL (diagnostic) connector. Top row, far left (outboard) cavity. IF there IS a terminal, and the wire on the back of it is tan/blk, that's TCC wiring, so it probably does.

MOST of the cavities on the C100 engine connector are the same for all models and engines. Use Matt's diagram above to get an idea of what the cavities are, and their functions. The differences are going to be the "ABS" and possibly the TCC wiring, and perhaps the purple and green VSS wires (but I doubt it for a 92, I know they're not in C100 for 93-up).

If in doubt, remove the connectors on the engine side. Remove the 2 7mm head screws. On the inside of the truck, there are two "latches" that attach the fuse box to the connector on the firewall. Release the latches, and separate the fuse box from the connector. Look at the backside of the connector, and compare the colors and wire gauges to the engine harness. MOST of them will be the same. The 4 in the middle and the large red, pink, purple wires on the other column will be the same. And differences are most likely to be in the center column.

Still confused? Post your questions. I volunteered in my first post I would help.

Re: Bulk connection at firewall question

Dave, the instrument panel connector shown in my Sy/Ty wiring diagram is labeled "C101", not "C110" I am looking at the wrong thing? I was thinking about tackling my wiring soon.

Re: Bulk connection at firewall question

The above diag is at least partially incorrect with respect to J,K -4,5,and 6. For example K4 is tail lights in a '91 PU. I have the factory 1991 book if you want the "corrections."

In a '91 diag at least it's C101, I think Dave got his left and right hands out of sync. :rotf:

Ok engine is in harness all hooked up.......so......

I need to know what wires need to go where....like pictures would be very helpful

Re: Bulk connection at firewall question

Here's the s10 I/P connector top and bottom wires

A: orange..........orange/black
B: brown...........brown/white
C: white/black..........white
D: purple/white.........green/black
E: purple/white.........brown/black

Here's the syclone engine connector top and bottom wires

F: orange/black...........white
G: dark green.............pink/black
H: white..................white/black
J: brown/white.........brown
K: light green..........orange

So what wires need switched around?

Re: Bulk connection at firewall question

Check this, and see if it is correct. I re-did your post so it makes sense. The 10 cavities are labeled A-K (no "I"). One row is A-E, the other F-K. Here's what I got out of it:

Here's the s10 I/P connector top and bottom wires

A: orange
B: brown
C: white/black
D: purple/white (VSS. Move to C100 on bulkhead)
E: purple/white (CRANK signal from CRANK fuse.) N/A
F: orange/black
G: brown/white (Probably Check Engine Light. Move to J)
H: white
J: green/black (VSS. Move to C100 on bulkhead)
K: brown/black (I do not know what this is. If it is TAN/blk, it could be Converter Clutch. Which is in C100 on Syclone).

Here's the syclone engine connector top and bottom wires
A: orange (Hot at all times. ECM Memory. From fuse ECM 2 or B)
B: brown (VSS Signal from DRAC)
C: white/black (Diagnostic-Enable from ALDL)
D: pink/black (Move the pnk/black on C100 to here)
E: white (Antilock light in cluster)
F: orange/black (P/N Switch)
G: dark green (Boost Gauge. (MAP Signal))
H: white (Tachometer)
J: brown/white (Check Engine Light in Cluster)
K: light green (Low Turbo Coolant Light in cluster)

I did this from memory. There may be mistakes, but I don't think so. I included descriptions for the Sy wires. I'm not positive about the orange wire, but orange is usually hot at all times, so I'm probably correct.

Many don't need to be changed. A, B, C, F, and H are the same. The 2 VSS wires, and the pnk/black ECM turn-on wires are in the C100 on the S10, and need to be routed to the IP 10-pin for the Syclone. The other stuff like the boost gauge and indicator lights don't have to be used.

There ya' go. You're welcome. Took about an hour to write this.

Re: Bulk connection at firewall question

So where in the c100 should I connect the 2 vss wires ?.......also do I just cap "E" off on the s10 connector
