Re: cbr brake kit on e-bay

Not always as easy as it sounds, especially when people put their list of mods in their sig, when you do a search on a word that's in their sig it shows up in every damn thread. I'm re-reading on the cbr brake kits to refresh my memory, all stuff I've read here before. Just realized what a pain in the ass it was when I tried to search and find old articles and keep coming up empty handed, not finding articles I know exists.

Do a search for brakes? You'll find over 500, that's useful. Do a search for CBR, you'll find 5, none of which are useful. Try C5 or LS1 (as I believe that's the brake calipers used in the kit) and you end up with nothing because the terms are too short.

I'm happy to search, but it's not always as effective as people think. I've always considered myself pretty adept at using search engines, and can usually find stuff my coworkers and friends can't on the internet, but on this site I always end up irritated when I try to use the search to find an old article I remember reading and want to see again, can never seem to find it.

Just curious, if you were searching for info on this, what terms would you use? Always looking to learn new tricks here.

Re: cbr brake kit on e-bay

By the way, not saying I can't find what I'm looking for so no need to link to specific threads, I am just trying to help a newb out as "use the search" isn't always enough for them. So here's my two cents, try using the advanced search, in the brakes forum on "caliper".

Yes this has been covered here a few times already.

The 12" F body kit will fit behind stock wheels.
The new C5 kit must have 17" or larger wheels for clearance.
I am going to sell my Baer setup to do the C5's eventually.

Re: cbr brake kit on e-bay

And for another me too post, I helped a buddy install a set this weekend. The install took all day, definitely not an afternoon job your first time through but it was well worth it. The truck stops much better now, and I'm buying a set for my truck to install next weekend after seeing the results.

Re: cbr brake kit on e-bay

hey crash, when you did your buddy's truck did you all cut your own spindles or did you pay to have CBR do them for you?

Also, do you think the truck holds a little more psi when trying to launch it?

thanks,

if you have a sawzall and a metal cutting blade, it's a piece of cake. then use a cutting wheel on a grinder to finish it up. you can do it on the truck too. without removing the spindle. but if you do it on the truck, tape the seal area behind the spindle and tape the front hole in the spindle so that you dont get metal shavings and dust in there.

and they hold great.

I have the kit on my Sy and TY. Was easy to install and the instructions were first rate. There are pics in my gallery under the Syclone.

FWIW, I took the SY to the track last week. All Stock went 1.7 60' and 13.27 100. I would say the brakes definatly helped as i could hold almost full throttle.

Re: cbr brake kit on e-bay

We did it ourselves, takes some time but nothing to it. We weren't able to actually test how much boost it would hold as he burnt two plug wires and while he can cruise around on them fine if he builds over 5lbs of boost it blows out the spark. He'll be doing a plug change next weekend and then we'll know more.

He did say it was obvious to him right away that they were much more powerful, he didn't get on them too hard as the pads need to brake in but for the same stopping force he needs much less pedal pressure.

Re: cbr brake kit on e-bay

Hey thanks for the opinions fellas!

I'm weighing my options on my next upgrade. PTE44 w/down pipe or flex-a-forms and CBRs. :banghead:

I'm thinking the upgraded brakes and flex-a-forms will help knock my 60' times down and help me be a little more consistent at the line.

Re: cbr brake kit on e-bay

Does anyone have extra cut spindles or know the part# of the spindles for this conversion? I don't really want to cut up my original spindles, since I'm trying to keep all the original parts.

Chevy S-10 and GMC S-15 4x4 spindels are the same.
Call your local bone yard and tell them you need spindels
for a 91 S-10 4x4.

Re: cbr brake kit on e-bay

Interested in buying mine? I got some junkyard spindles and cut them up so I could just swap them with my orig. ones when I did the kit(yesterday and finishing up tommorrow). I paid $50/ea for the replacements, and shipping on those heavy bitches won't be cheap. Hit me up and we can work something out.

Oh yeah, the CBR kit is a decent amount of work. Less than motor mounts, but more than the 3 time you pull a trans. Going together well. CBR brackets are A-1 top notch pieces.

Interested. Could you email me photos so I can see them?
