Coilover comparison

Re: Coilover comparison

If I'm looking to run better coilover shocks since QA Shocks are not the best, Bilstein or Penske are probably a better brand. How do I go about ordering those? I've contacted Penske and some other companies but without dimensions and spring loads they can't help me. Can someone here help me with the info or part numbers. Thanks.

Re: Coilover comparison

I'm running the hack version of the coilover setup with the QA1's and eibach springs. It works well although the springs arnt stiff enough I think the 9 inch spring was the size you could run without needing a spacer, and thats what I wish i ould have done. The spacer is great and all, but I would have rather had whatever extra re-bound I could have gotten from the full spring.

I also will say for autox or roadracing 600lbs is too soft. I am going to be trying out my 750's this summer to see if they are better.

Re: Coilover comparison

I have Installed 1 RPM kit on a Ty and did not use spacers, It sat low but everything seemed to work togather just fine. Only thing I did not care for was how close the spring was inside the shock tower, rubbing on both sides. No matter how far back you shim the lower shock back the spring rubs the front upper arm bolt head. I have a roller Ty with the same situation using RPM's kit. I've seen a Sy and Ty using the RPM kit with the 2" spacers and only differance was the ride height. Not sure what length the springs where but the ones I installed left the cladding about 1.5" from the tire. My JSM kit on my Sy and Ty are about 2".

What I did not like while installing my JSM kits was how close the spring would rub inside the shock tower. I flipped my shocks on both my JSM kits and the fit is perfect. It still allow's the tie rod sleeve past the spring without rubbing or contact from the CV axle. Although my TY allows the inside balljoint to bump the forward top bar of the lower control arm while at almost full lock with a slight bump entering a driveway with the JSM kit.

Im pretty sure the RPM kit will not allow enough room to flip the shock with the spring down to allow the spring to clear the inside the shock tower. The lower shock mount appears to be closer to the tie rod than the JSM kit. Im hoping using the edelbrock tie rod sleeve will allow me to flip the shock on the RPM kit and still clear the spring. I dont like rubbing on suspention components.

Re: Coilover comparison

I found my own set-up for coil-overs. I used qa-1 small body steel shocks, a coil-over kit, and 1-7/8 id 550lb black magic springs cost less then $350 to my door. My truck is a second gen ext cab but I would think it is very similar.

Who is currently offering coil-over kits currently besides sport machines for the Ty?
