Ok Well i am getting ready to start buying parts for this thing so here is what i am thinking about let me know what you all think about it.

My Goals are mid 11's

SRP .030 Pistons
Eagle H-Beam 5.7” Rods
Comp 09-412-8 Camshaft or 422 what do you think?
Comp High Energy Roller Lifters PN 850-12
Comp Valve Springs PN 982-12
Crane Cams Gold Race Rocker Arms 1.5 Ratio Self Aligning
Comp Pushrods PN 7808
Clevite Main Bearings
Vortec Heads 2.02/1.6 Valves and possibly doing some mild porting
Cloyes True Double Roller Timing Chain (any recomendations here)
Possibly 4 bolt main depends on budget I am thinking about not porting the heads right away and doing this instead but what do you think?
ARP Bolts
Fel Pro Gaskets (any recommendations here pro/cons)
Stock Crank
Stock Block

GT35S-R Turbo Kit
50# Injectors

Will my walbo 255lph pump keep up to the demand?

I really appreciate all the input i can get on this being that it is going to be the heart and soul of my Typhoon.

ditch the felpro head gaskets and go cometic or copper. get the 422 cam and a 1.6 rocker is gooder too.

4 bolt mains
total seal rings.

pencil in a really good trans build to hold that power if not done already, other wise sounds like a strong combo, keep us posted

I am also getting into the build process now that the warmer weather is here. What does the build you listed end up costing? I'm torn between reusing my freshly rebuilt stock heads or upgrading to vortecs. Thanks

Nate, I know your truck been down for a while, but if you can swing the extra cost of Vortec go for them, much less prone to detonation (extra cost of having the intake machine, cost of heads and valve covers). I assume your going with forged piston and rods.

I have already built my tranny and i am using a 9/11 28k converter.
Has far has prices parts are going to be about 2grand then machine work and assembly is about 1500 then my turbo is kit is another 2 grand so like everything with these trucks everything takes a lot of money. What is the deal with using the fel pro gasket for the heads? I am sure there is a reason, but they usually make the best gaskets around. But like i said i am sure there is some sort of syty specific reason.

i agree with jwaller. get the 422 and some 1.6 rockers. i have both of these on my truck and it seems to like them. you will want to go bigger down the line if you dont. bigger is always gooder....

I don't want to hijack the thread but this is in the same area of questioning...
If I were to use my rebuilt stock heads, that were already ported/polished and only have about 400 miles on them just to get my truck back out this summer, how much would I need to change to go to Vortecs this fall?
I plan on upgrading all the interals, 4 bolt mains, the best of everything just because I don't want this to happen again. What can't I change now that I would have to when I jump to Vortecs. Also I will be going A2A with the truck as well.
thanks much

ted sounds like my build up. Go 4bolt main (I didnt now wise i would have) you can always take the heads off and port them out later, they will be a big help over stock anyways. I went with the 412 cam but thinking should have gone 422 now i have the vortecs and can use the topend better. And i went with 50#inj for now but will be going 75's later but that will need more computer work and money.

Good luck.

I was looking at rings and was considering either TSS Street Ring Set or TS1 Ring Set i was thinking a thinner set would be better 1/16 compared to 5/64 but was looking for more advice. The only diffence i see between the TSS and TS1 is the top ring is made of better material and the other 2 are the same gapless rings.

1st engine on progress...
Hi !

Since you are talking about engine plans I would like your opinion about my project. I'm planning to fit 4.3 liter engine with turbo and intercooler to my 88 Pontiac Fiero GT. My plans are to get enough power but keep the car weight as low as possible.

Engine plans:

- Stock block
- Stock crank polished and shot peened
- BBC 6.135" ultra light rods (640 g) from Iwracing (www.iwracing.com) modified to accept SBC piston pin ($125 "option") and narrowed big end to fit stock crank.
- JE Extreme Duty Inverted Dome pistons (pert# 170817) with -28cc dish. Ment to use with 3.75" stroke and 6" rod so they will fit with 3,48" stroke and
6.125" (or BBC 6.135") rod.
- Crane cams hydraulic roller cam (part# HR-222/339-2S-12) in. 284 deg, ex. 292 deg, in. 222 deg@.050, ex 230 deg@.050, lift in. .509, ex. .528
- GM performance bowtie aluminium heads with 2.05 titanium intake and 1.6 inconel exhaust valves :D . (get bare heads from ebay. Fill number 2452400839 to search field)
- Roller rockers (1.6) and double valve springs with titanium retainers.
- Electronic fuel injection (Megasquirt and spark) and custom made sheet metal intake with big enough injectors.
- Tilton 7.25" triple disk clutch and very light flywheel
- 5 stage dry sump pump
- MSD HVC 6600 Racing ignition and coil
- Turbo (HX50) and air to water intercooler

Any suggestions ?

Thanks
Iiro

Iiro what are your plans for the fiero? street car, drag car? what does the HX50 compare to T72P or maybe a GT42? Also if you plan on using this engine on the street I would not recommend titanium intake valves! BTW that's a very interesting/nice rod and piston combo. Also it looks like you plan on making alot of power, is a billet crank a consideration?

good luck

1st engine on progress...
4 bolt mains to block and gear driven cam where missing from my list.

I've followed your forums for some time and noticed that almost everyone is building their engines with 5.7" Eagle rods. That is an understandable choice because of perfect and easy fit. I have done a lot of research and development with the rod and piston combo and I think that the combination I have found will give lot of advantage.

- Better rod to stroke ratio -> less stress to block
- Bulletproof rods. Bbc rods are built for heavy pistons and a lot of power so they should tolerate heavy turbo use with no problems
- Light weight combination. Pistons with 1.125 ch are light yet strong and with right rods combination will be over 300 g lighter than stock rod/piston combos 1520 g.
- Less rotating weight means less stress to crank.
- You have several manufacturers to choose rods from.
- If you machine rods to accept stock bearing there is no need to do any machining to crank. This way crank will be as strong as it can.
- Price for this combination is reasonable. Bbc rods are cheap and pistons with 1.125 ch are normal shelf items not any special product with high price.

About my project. My Fiero should be fun car to drive small road during summer time. I'll build it so that if I like to I can take it to car slalom or take couple of round on circle track. If I can get 600 - 700 very driveable bhp from the engine I'm satisfied and with that power 2600 lbs Fiero should be fast enough for street use.
Aluminium heads are for low weight (and lots of flow :D ) and dry sump allows me to install engine low and gain lower center of gravity.

Billet crank is definately on my wish list but so far they are to expensive to me.

Iiro

ps. Why not titanium valves to street car ?

for starters you don't need hard core intake valves, consider what you have flowing over them (cold air and fuel) so it's an illogical move. Personally, I'm going with SS exhaust and calling it great, less expense.

Iiro, I've spoken to two different valve manufacturers (Ferrea & Manley) and they both said the life of a Ti valve is 25 hours and then they must be replaced. Why do you think you can get them so cheap on ebay?
