Re: cv axle brand
I've gone through the torn boot thing too. My DD would tear the boots after 18 months and <15,000 miles. The work to renew the boots is bad enough, but cleaning the MESS is worse. WTF? The originals last 20+ years, and a replacement barely lasts a year. After replacing the third one in two years, I had had enough cheap crap. I was tired of cleaning the mess.
I found some boots from Moog. About $45 each and had to be ordered-in from out of state distribution, but they are the hard plastic like the OEM are. They've been under there about 3 years now, and other than one clamp oozing a bit, they seem to be lasting.
For my 2nd Gen front brake project on the Typhoon, I'm going to replace the outer joint on my original axle shafts with the 2nd Gen outer joint because the bearing is different. I'm going to re-use the original boot. I bought a universal clamp kit that will make the clamp for the boots. The kit was $50, but will make about 25 clamps.
There's some ideas. Bottom line: There's nothing as good as the original boots. If they are serviceable, keep them. They are more reliable than any replacements currently available.
