Hello all

I am wondering how many people dd their sy/ty? What are the issues you would check before putting one into dd duty?

I am curious as when i get one, it will be a dd until I can a veh allowance from work and get a corporate veh.

Thanks all

Nick

Re: Daily drivers?

My 92' was a DD for 2 years, just typical maintenance, never had any major problems with mine in that time.

Re: Daily drivers?

I somewhat dd my Sy. I switch between it and my Impreza about every other week more or less. It'll be driven less once the snow hits as I have the subie for snow patrol duty. But regular maint. and it'll do just fine.

Re: Daily drivers?

Once you get all the little quirks worked out of them, they can be pretty comfy and dependable. I've been DD'ing mine since the day I bought it (actually not so much now since I bought the motorcycle). The loose steering was really on my nerves at first. I got most of the play out of the system, though. Now, only my driver's window (motor is on it's last leg), and my sagging headliner are the only things that are bugging the hell out of me. Just realize, things will go wrong with it, just like any other 15-17 year old car. Just try not to hammer on the drivetrain too much.

3 years and 60K miles later. Where are you located? Snow and salty roads? I bought S10 rims and snow tires for the winter months though. You need them in the snow.

Re: Daily drivers?

I've been DD mine for 6 years now. Just your normal issues with an older car for the most part. Tranny and turbo are the high dollar replacements I've had to do. 135,000+ miles got it at ~85,000

Re: Daily drivers?

Tried to DD mine, but I'm still replacing little parts that age has taken a hold of. I have probably driven mine 5 months out of the year I have owned it, but lately it is looknig good, and not as many problems, just keep your maitenance up!

Yeah, now I am in the Nashville area so snow and salt are not an issue. If i ever move back to MI, well that is a different story.

Re: Daily drivers?

That poll shed a lot of light...

When i get one it will see dd for a little while until I can get an allowance from work for a corporate veh, but even then i would probably just take the allowance and put it toward other stuff

thanks for all the replies so quick, i appreciate it.

Re: Daily drivers?

I drove mine daily for almost 7 years. Never had a problem that left me stranded for more than a day. Now that it's park i think it's time to part with it.

Re: Daily drivers?

Mine was daily driver since 1993! Would still be a daily driver but...a stinkin $3 o-ring on the oil filter adapter decided to fall apart from age, dumped the majority of the oil, and starved my motor of oil, so it's awaiting motor rebuild. IF ANYONE HERE HAS NEVER CHNAGED THESE O RINGS I WOULD HIGHLY ADVISE DOING IT ASAP, IT MIGHT SAVE YOU A MOTOR! They're a PITA to change, but may save you more money than Geico in the end

Re: Daily drivers?

92 Ty daily driver since 97. Almost zero problems. That said, it has had very regular maintenance. Mobile 1 every 3000, all fluids every two years. Plugs, wires, cap, etc, once a year.
