DataMaster/Alky/data error

Has anyone with Alky, had an issue with datamaster timing out/ data error.
It seems to happen to me when I'm at 25 psi of boost or higher and the pump is really spinning.

Re: DataMaster/Alky/data error

I have seen this problem on both my truck and another local truck both running SMC alcohol. When the alky kicks on, it wants to disconnect from Datamaster. Do you have any suggestions? I dont know what the "power dist box" is. I could swear I read a cut and dry case-closed solution to this exact problem on TurboBuick.com but I can't remember what it was. I do have a capacitor installed across the power for the alcohol but to be honest it didn't seem to have much effect. My power comes from the firewall (instead of the IGN fusebox).

Re: DataMaster/Alky/data error

Put a large capacitor (16v-22uF) between the power wires going from the powersource - to the box that drives the pump

I'm not sure but this sounds RFI related. I know msd tells you not to place their boxes on the same wire as the alt bc of this. and they always want you to feed directly off the battery so that you avoid vol spikes and such bc the battery acts as a large filter. and you guys with caps have tried to isolate the system with them and it seems like that should do the trick.

Check and recheck your grounds and get\keep them clean.

Re: DataMaster/Alky/data error

Do a relay and capacitor and it will solve the problem. I added a Razor kit and was experiencing the same problem. I emailed Julio and he sent me a 'kit' that included a relay, wires and cap which I installed and the problem vanished.

Re: DataMaster/Alky/data error

Jer, what type of Capacitor and where did it get installed? I have the SMC kit and I get my power from the firewall (full time power unfortunately, not ignition switched - although I'd like to upgrade that). I also ran a little blue Radio shack capacitor (cant remember the value) across the + and - (seems weird to "short" out the connection but that's what I was advised to do after searching..). Mine works OK most of the time with few data errors, but disconnects from time to time.

Run the power supply off of the 12v at the firewall, engine side. Then route that into the cab and istall your relay near the fuse box. Ground it at the bolt located above the parking brake. Get your switched power from IGN on the fuse box. Then send the power to the control unit so it powers on and off with the ignition and then you can add a cap (which may not be needed since your wired directly off the battery which acts as a giant coil) to the positive and negative at the relay is easiest. Should be all you need to get switched power and eliminate any EMI that you're seeing.

Re: DataMaster/Alky/data error

Thanks so much - that's exactly what I needed! I'll try to remember to post back with my results (may be a month or two.) Hope I can return the favor down the line.

Yes I have the SMC kit. If Julio will send me the fix kit free anyways, he's my new hero!

If you bought the competition's kit I would tell ya to pound sand... but that's just me.

Listen, one Bosch 30A relay and some wires and a capacitor are all you need. It's not even worth waiting for it all to show up. Go down to RatShack and get the gear and slap it in. Done deal.

When I bought my SMC kit (late 2002) I beleive AlkyControl was just a twinkle in Julio's eye.. ;)

Thanks for the info Jer I'll get hoppin on that!!! "Data Err"-free recording, here I come!! WooHoo!! :D
