Before everyone goes to the trouble of posting a pic just bring the motor to #1 firing and make sure the rotor is pointing to (or aligned with) the little vent screen like my right hand dist and NOT offset like the my dist on the left.

Guys...these are A1 Cardone reman distributors. They started using the bolted on plate years ago in rebuilds (according to my rep). Many parts stores rebadge them, but they originate from Cardone.

Makes perfect sense since mine looked identical in every respect except for the mis-alignment. I'd still like to rip one of these apart and see how they got it together wrong.

Re: Dist cap PROPLEM FOUND pics added.

3 likely explanations IMO:

1) - The reluctor ring was installed wrong. The would be easiest explanation if the bolts are equal distance apart (meaning - it can be turned - note how the hole is closer to the tips at some points)
2) - The reluctor ring is part of a batch that was machined "off".
3) - The "star" is splined incorrectly on the shaft. (identifying the tip-to-dist-gear-tooth relation would be key here).

My truck has the 6al box and coil along with the msd dist.........I'll have to pop my cap off and inspect it just for chits and giggles!? I have not had any problems with mine yet.....hopefully never!

Yea I didn't ask the question properly. Dumb question = dumb answer. ;)

The three screw Distr. in the pictures are the only kind we can buy from stores other than GM? Is this three screw style more reliable than OEM?

The one I have has a ring around -covering- the area where the three screws are and looks pretty nasty between the star and ring.

I wouldn't say that it's the ONLY non-GM dist that you can get.....just that this is the way that A1 Cardone is making them (and they happen to be one of the largest reman companies out there). Shop around and see what's available in your area....you may find a GM-similar brand.
