Re: does they have a differant engine block ??

Any non-balance shaft 4.3 block will work. So any TBI motor from 87-94. You can use the vortec block if you want. Nothing wrong with the balance shaft with a stock setup. And it can be removed.

The main difference on the bottom ends of our syty's vs normal 4.3 is the pistons, oil feed spots, and the main caps. Pistons are unquie to our trucks but you can get any aftermarket set and be fine. The block needs to be tapped for the oil line for the turbo. You can use your current block as a template. And you can re-use the caps on the new block or just get it converted to 4 bolt caps.

Re: does they have a differant engine block ??

There are engines with a balance shaft in some trucks starting in 1992.

This is from the holy grail atticle that was refered to:1987- ’94 WITHOUT BALANCE SHAFT: In 1987, a roller lifter cam was installed, so the block was changed again. Two bolt bosses were added in the middle of the valley for the lifter retainer that kept the rollers properly located on the cam and perpendicular to it. This same basic block was used through ’91 for everything, and in ’92 through ’94 for all of the engines without balance shafts except for one small difference – some of the blocks came with four bolt holes for the tunnel style retainer beginning in ’92. There were several different castings used, including the 10105867, 10172756, 14099073, 14093683 and 10066011 with the two-bolt retainer, and the 10172756, 14099073 and 10066061 blocks with the four-bolt retainer.

But if you find a s10 pickup or s10 blazer with the original 4.3 engine in the 1991 model year or prior I believe you will be safe.
