And the longer the run times;). To keep the detail, patience is definitely a virtue, as you know. That's why my friends are the machinists, not me, I'm more of an instant gratification type of guy:rotf:."How long till it comes out of the mill, THAT LONG, your killin' me":rotf:

No worries, I just post stuff up on the board that I do to my own truck for members to check out. And if it makes some extra  & :1gun: money at the end of the day, :woot:

That looks BADASS! I love it. But my Sy is lowered so nobody would ever see it....:(

My is truck lowered with Belltech, I think I will be able to still see it. Besides asthetic, these cover strengthen the rear end by preventing housing defelection and bearing distortion.

Yep, the size of the tool that you can cut with is directly inversely proportional to the run time . It took me about two and a half hours just to engrave that horn button. We make molds where I work so it is not uncommon for us to cut with one tool for 36 hours straight... However our machine is fully automated so set it up before the weekend, hit the "cycle start" button and we have a finished mold when we come back to work Monday morning. Or a bunch or broken tools and a wrecked mold if it didn't back plot correctly in the program :squint:.

Wow, small world, that's what my friends do here, plastic injection molds & prototyping. Great to see someone else left in the US, where QUALITY tools are made:tup:, not many tool makers left here:(. I've bee spoiled over the years, tool makers are machinists & more, there are tolerences & then there are tooling TOLERENCES. If you get a chance, check out there web site, www.kjprecision.com. They got some fun toys here including wire edm, edm sinking, cnc fadal's, & a manual area I'm allowed to play in with a marvel, bridgeport & a lathe:D. It's like a grown man's "candyland":rotf: I haven't come up with anything yet we can't build, & trust me, I lay awake at night thinking of things, shiny things!!:rotf:

my cover is new and never used, but it is jet hot coated, can you still engrave it?

Not sure about that. You're welcome to send it in, and we'll take a look. I think the jet hot coating is more like a ceramic paint than a powdercoat. That's good, since that won't chip. But we still have to clamp it to the table as well:(. We won't do anything to it until we know we can engrave it. It works a lot better when there not coated or painted to start with. Just an FYI, I'm planning on using Sharkhide on all the bare aluminum parts on the truck for corrosion resistance as an option for paint or clearcoat.;)

You aren't going to have any coating left on the face if you do because they will have to face mill it off to make it flat before they engrave it. That way, it will be bare aluminum before they start.

I got mine today it looks great, thanks. It looks like my cover has a slight casting flaw, no big deal.

A lowered Sy is still on jackstands quite a bit so you'll get to see it. :rotf:

These covers look sweet, nice idea and execution! How about engraving "If you can read this, you are losing!"

Looks like this GP bought Summit's inventory. The Summit covers are out of stock until 3/7. Will this GP be open that long? What about doing a cover for Turbo Buicks?
