How many have painted their cladding

Just wonder how many of you have painted your cladding.

My truck has never spent time outside other than the occasional drive and the cladding looks like ass. The only thing I know is to paint it.

Re: How many have painted thier cladding

My cladding is painted, but it was a forced paint due to smacking into another Syclone (I'll save that for another thread), otherwise I never would have.

Have you tried a silicone based conditioner like Turtle Wax Black Chrome (now hard to find) or Mothers Back to Black? It may take a few applications before you see good results. If that doesnt work, and you are going to paint it but want it to still look stock.... if you do some searching you should be able to find information on painting your cladding and having it turn out appearing like stock with the matte black finish if done properly with the correct mix ratios of additives.

My cladding is pained the same color as the truck (Green). No issues here...been that way since '05.

My cladding is painted a stockish gray, but it was like that when I bought it. It looks outstanding painted--although I would have gone a shade lighter than what the previous owner of mine decided on.

My cladding was painted a few years ago due to a collision also. And I really like it. Cleaning the truck is so much easier, you just wax it like the rest of the truck. My truck is black/black and it makes it POP!

my typhoon has painted cladding and it looks goood. My syclone cladding looked really crappy till a friend suggested a german product you get at a Harley shop for black plastic around the engine comes with a nice applicator and works well , called S-100, you will need two cans, they are small

I painted mine becouse my friend owns a body shop and did it cheep, It also looks better with the black ZR1's. I gave him the red s-10 in the pic for painting all the cladding and a good buff. I had less than a grand in the red s-10 with the wheels and all, so it was a good deal for me. He did a awesome job!

Mine is painted black as well. Before my whole truck was painted I tried every cleaner on the cladding & it only lasted a few weeks. Some panels were greasy & some dry as a bone with those conditioners. The Typhoons had painted cladding & they always look nicer t me. It's so much easier to maintain now. Wish they would have been like this to start. Here's a pic of mine:

Has anyone ever painted the Sy cladding Satin black? I would think that would give it a stock appearing finish and be maintanance free. I personally like the stock finish of the cladding and would like to keep it that way but as stated, its impossible to keep it looking nice.

Re: How many have painted their cladding

The guy before me repainted the whole typhoon, it was a red/grey now its a red/red. He had a crappy job done on it orange peel all over, poor prep work, also shaved the roof rack and did a horrible job filling the wholes. Anyways I think this summer I'm gonna get it into the body shop and get it painted the factory red/grey.

If you put black chrome or other products on it and decide later you want to paint it, be ready to spend twice as much and have the painter very upset at you.

I'm getting my truck ready for paint right now and I will be going with a matte (satin) finish on the cladding. It's funny that this thread came up because my friend that is helping me is a painter and that's what we've been planning for a while. The truck body itself will be done in the next few weeks and then I have to do some repairs on the cladding before I paint all of the pieces. I will post up some pics when everything is complete. I'm hoping to have everything finished within the next month.
