Ok i have a question.. is it bad for the truck to convert it to rwd..... i want more gas mileage ... but on the other side. is it ok for the shaft and diff to be removed and still drive it... willl it burn out when i shift gears?. first im starting to hate cv boots .. second time around changing them in one year.. i also noticed that the boot of my shocks rub the cv shaft...soo im considering on removing the front diff and shaft...i was just wondering if i can get your guys .02cents on it.... thanks guys...ohh yea what ever happen to that GP on the ss ic to turbo pipe..???

Yeah you can, but be sure you put an axle end back through the hub and tightenthat axle nut to 130 lb/ft at least I think it was 160 lb/ft.

Something has to be in there to hold the hub together.
Unless you get 2wd spindles.

If renz was running the GP on the SS IC pipe I know he has been very busy with the intake manifold conversion GP.
Probably best to go post in the GP section where its listed.

Best of luck,

You can use a '98 up 2WD hub from an S10 Blazer, because GM changed the design of them to match the same floating brake rotors and same calipers as the 4WD models. It bolts on the new 2WD spindle the same as the 4x4 hubs bolt to the 4x4 spindle (as a matter of fact, the '98 up 2WD spindle is the same as the 4WD spindle), and doesn't have the provision for a splined half shaft to go thru it. The '98 up trucks, on the otherhand, are different. They still have the same type of spindle that the '82-'97 model 2WD's have.

I think before you butcher a SyTy you should consider a Honda if you are worried about gas mileage. Otherwise buy a Honda

It would work.. many guys/gals on here will tell you it will be ok for thousands of miles.

But... Many other people on the board (including me) say it's going to burn up the clutch in the transfer case.

And as mentioned above, DO NOT drive the truck with the front axles removed and the CV end out of the hub! The wheels WILL fall off.

buy a Honda. more reliable, no tire spin when shifting..well ok maybe with redline rpms.
I wouldn't hack up the Syclone. Fix it and buy something thats a better daily driver. thats my .02. for what it's worth.

or you could just go buy an S10 with a mild V8. 2wd like you want, plenty of power, and probably much easier to work on. I have no experience with SyTy's. I'm just going by everyone's opinion that they are a bitch to work on.
