Kenne bell header issues

I know a few of you guys run these headers. I'm having major fitment issues. To start the drivers side crossover pipe will not clear the steering shaft, I have a Astro shaft to so its small, it hits enough I can't turn the steering wheel.. My second issue is where the cross over pipes connect, they are roughly 4-5inchs apart.. They are supposed to slide into eachother. Why am I having this issue? Solid motor mounts have something to do with it? I'll post pictures this evening when I get back home

Re: Kenne bell header issues

KB headers should clear the stock steering shaft ok, maybe someone re-done the driver side flange and moved it. Could explain your 5inchs apart.

I had 2 different KB headers and both touches the steering linkage.

Code what?
The solids raise the motor about 1/2", I would get some pics of the headers and maybe someone can identify a modification to them

The distance between the crossovers. The headers themselves have not been modified. Only a few cracks welded up

Mine fit like that to when off the truck.it seems the tube on drivers side that the crossover pipe connects to needs to be shifted 1/4-1/2inch inward towards the motor.

It looks like the expanded slip fitting is missing. Also look like driver side crossover has been cut/rewelded.

If your talking about where the crossover pipes connect. That expanded slip fitting is there.

Hard to tell. Sorry buddy.

Probably a motor mount issue like stated.

Motor mounts wouldn't cause the cross pipe to not fit but It could cause the headers touching the steering shaft.

Re: Kenne bell header issues

I ended up cutting a slit in the tube for the drivers side crossover on the header. Moved it over 3/4 of a inch and everything clears perfectly now, and the crossover pipes meet up correctly. So somewhere down the road someone must have modified this header without it being on the motor and it led to this issue.

Whenever I hear Kenne Bell, I wonder how many trucks were blown up because of their stupid chip.

Disable KR? Sure,why not?

Where the crossover pipes meet, and the drivers side slips into the passenger side. Is there supposed to be clamped? Or do they just rely on the exhaust expanding to keep it a closed fit? There is maybe a 1/4 between the crank pulley to the exhaust.

Reference the first picture...The Astro steering shaft does NOT appear to be fully engaged... That bolt needs to come out so you can fully engage the knurled end to the shaft.... Then the bolt slides through between both knurled sides.. this should help with some of your clearance issues....What you have now is about 1/8" to 1/4" of engagement that's sketchy IMO...Mine was also like this. I just fixed it last week.
