Lean but no KR

My mods are in my sig.
With the new 25g turbo and a FMIC. The PLX says 13 for air to fuel ratio @WOT. This is at 8 to 9 psi. That is very lean at WOT. I’m not getting any KR. I’m running the ultimate chip and FP is turned up to 50 base. I don’t have an ostrich setup to change out bins. I’m still running stock injectors. I was going to tune with alky injection after 10 psi but if its that lean on only 8psi that makes no sense. Im at like 66% duty cycle at 8psi so that tells me there is fuel to be had. What would you guys do. I apperciate your help.

Re: Lean but no KR

I can't remember, are you on Code59 yet, Keith? If not, I'd sure recommend getting set up to do that.... you're making enough mods that you need the ability to change your tune as you add parts.... sorta like me ;)
You don't need the Ostrich.... just a G1 carrier and a Flash n' Burn from Moates... the rest is just using TPRT. After this weekend there will be some great info available for getting started with '59.
What you can accomplish with '59 on a weekend is probably more than what you can in a month going back and forth with a tuner via long distance.

Re: Lean but no KR

screw that worthless knock sensor and use the wbo2 to tune with.Who cares what that sensor says. You just have to use some common sense when doing it,if its lean back off it.But you would have to go into the ultimate to turn it off,I dont think you can turn it off on them can you?Rob is right if you are going to start playing with alky etc then you need to be able to tweak things.Best advice I can say is put all your mods on and strap it on a dyno to tune on it.

Re: Lean but no KR

Took my alternator and battery to Autozone. The battery tested good but the alternator was junk. Picked up a new one. Im thinking that should help out on some things.
You guys are right. I need a tune. I was going to just tune past 10 psi with alky but it looks like 8psi is lean. What can I expect going from a turbo that flows 38 lbs/min to one that flows 67 lbs/min
Thanks guys. I cant say enough about everyones help. I will meet some of you guys one of these days. I just need to get things in order to make it down to a forum event (NATS)

Re: Lean but no KR

I installed a 60-1 compressor wheel on my TD06H turbo & it is not lean,I turned up the base fuel pressure w/my ultimate.

It can be too rich also be giving it too much FP but only in the upper RPMs w/my LM-1.

I use more than 50 PSI FP.

IIRC,I am close to 55 PSI.

It runs great!

Only race I lost on the street are from two bikes,a 2002 GSXR 750 & a GSXR 1000.

I raced both @ the same time.

Re: Lean but no KR

Not really sure what happened. I just turned the boost up and dumped a bunch of alky and it was so rich that the plx just read rich and it started to break up. I turned off the alky and the stock injectors were running 10 AFR. The turned FP down and started to boost and alky tune. I stopped at 22 psi and still pig rich between 10 and 11 AFR. From a roll its retarded. Even today being 90 deg. Thanks guys.

Re: Lean but no KR

Get it running good on regular fuel first and have your AFR's in the 11.3-11.7 range at WOT.

Then you can add alky/meth and turn boost up till you hit knock. Your AFR's will be in the 10's with alky/meth. Normal.
Good luck!

Re: Lean but no KR

Near-term solution... set your alky turn-on point to come on before 8 psi.

The ultimates were set up on a specific turbo (in your case, stock), and were slightly leaner in spool-up areas to get the thing going off the line a bit better. When you go to a bigger turbo, this ends up being too lean.

As the other guys said, best to start on the tuning process soon.
