Line pressure on tranny

seems that my tranny is slowing dying on me, but wanted to be sure.

when the trans gets hot, in OD, i get a shudder between 1 and 2 shift...
in D, no shudder at all.

cold weather, the OD shift is fine, but starts to shudder after awhile... still dont get a shudder in D.

obviously, sounds like a TC.

but, i just recently changed my fluid and filter from when i fragged my tranny after KC99... i dont drive the truck that often, so it just came now time to change the fluid., mileage wise....

after taking off the pan, i noticed alot of the grayish metal goo caked on the magnet and evenly coated on the bottom of the pan.... dubb informed me this would be typical to see alot of this buildup after a rebuild...especially since ive never changed it since the rebuild.

i put back in Mobil 1 Syn ATF along with a bottle of lubegard. still shudders after trans gets warm.

question is, could it be that im not getting enough line pressure due to that gunk buildup, or would it truely be my TC failing?

id like to hook up a gauge to the trans to find out line pressure in OD.

what is base pressure and what line is for OD?

if i had low line pressure, what would i do other than a complete tranny flush?

TIA

heh...

ive adjusted the TV cable 2 times already.... didnt see that much of a change yet....

problem is, i know if i end up rebuilding, id like to just spend the money on a build that i can eventually throw on a bigger turbo. my goal is for a TE44, but i know for sure that wont be for a good year, and im not about to drive around with a 9/11 TC for a year with a stock turbo

unless i can get out of it cheaply, i'll do a stock build again and maybe settle for a 20g to hold me over, then sell the 20g to anti up for the TE44.

dunno, just weighing my options and taking it easy on boost launches....

Its not too bad really... Then again I think an open dump is too quiet also so maybe its just me. :-?

Adam, we'll get you a DAYCO convertor for around $89, or we can get you a stock V6 convertor from a new S10. It'll hold you over until your ready for the extra stall. Or you can get a tight 9/11 and have it restalled when your ready for around $100.

I just haven't bought into the need for a $500+ torque convertor yet, Brian's 9/11 hasn't shown me anything that a JW 10" can't do. Tom sold his big $$$ Yank to keep his low $$$ JW, and it's proving to be a good move. I do think you should replace everything internal once ($450~$700) and get it over with, the TC is easy to swap out later though.

Let me know if you want to do it over Xmas break, I have 4 weeks off from school and will be doing Brian's trans as well. Later,

if you still have the stock BV then you should have ~250-300psi @wot in 1-2.....the reason you don't have a shudder when in D is BC when you put the trans in D you have 2 extra clutches that apply......when in OD they don't apply until 4th gear....they are the overrun clutches...they are small but...it's prob just enough to keep yours from shuddering...also when in D you have slightly more line pressure to hold the clutches from slipping. understand now?

when in D... more pressure and more clutches = less slipping

wally...

knew about the higher line pressure in D...

so am i looking at a diagnoses of my TC is starting to go or something else internal?

if possible, id like to get whatever is failing fixed before something seriously lets go and im left with a major rebuild.....again.

whats your thoughts on christians ideas above?

any recommendations for a decent/affordable converter if thats my prob?

It's not bad at all, this is where I'm at.

try a bottle of that lube guard.

Couldnt agree with this more, it made ALL the difference in the world on my truck. However, I do have to admit, my shudder was the TC at highway speeds and is different than the ones you describe.
