Re: Mitsu VR4

I raced one before in my Typhoon. We went about 10 miles and we caught 4 lights. Each time I blew him away and he wouldn’t let off so I stayed in front of him all the way up to about 130. Oh yeah one of the times I was sitting behind him at the light and still passed him. BTW he had a hot chick in the car that had to laughing at him for loosing to a Jimmy 4 times.

Re: Mitsu VR4

A buddy of mine had one with like 20k miles on it. Had about $8k in mods done to it and ran mid 12's.

He sold it for around $34k a year ago. It was a clean car. I mean almost like brand new. Some dude on ebay bought it. My friend put it up for sale for $22k. No one touched it. He asked around and everyone told him that was dirt cheap, he bumped it up to $30k and he got a shit load of bids, go figure..

I wouldnt own one.

Wikid 1. No problem, You don't have to give me any phone numbers, Don't believe me ask Mike @ RPM. When his Ty was AWD & running low 12's me & my friend raced against Ghettosled in 96 3000GT VR4 with intake, exhaust, boost controller, stock clutch. We raced 4 times lost first 3 but on the last run the clutch hooked up on 3rd gear & we won by 2 cars. Any way all 4 times we got 2 -3 cars out of the box on Mike by the time I had to shift into 3rd the clutch was to hot & not grab Mike was able to pull & beat me by a car. And it was not all on the same day. I hope that's enough explanation for you. We got consistent 1.6 60' on stock clutch & street tires. Good luck Bro.!

A lot of people just don't know how to lunch 3000GT VR4's & Stealth TT AWD's. If someone knows what they are doing getting in to 1.7 & 1.6 60 foot is very easy & consistent. Same with Audi S4's. And I have driven lots of VR4s for many years and do own a Fast Syclone but went from VR4 to an EVO love my EVO & Syclone!

Re: Mitsu VR4

I had a VR-4 I was working on for a couple days 4-5 years ago and it was pretty quick but I never seemed to be able to get it to launch as hard a my Sy. Fun car, but I would never want to own one.

Re: Mitsu VR4

OK. Here is how you lunch a VR4. 1st gear let the clutch out and keep it right before it's about to engage which is about 1/3 from the floor to the top. I normally get the car to roll & then press the clutch in just enough to disengage the clutch but not all the way to the floor. Then get your RPMs to about 5500 but don't just keep it there, play with gas pedal from 5200-5600 RPM when you are ready get your foot of the clutch as quick as you can. And you will see what VR4 lunch is. Yes, it's brutal for the car but it does the job. Now DSM guys like to slip the clutch doesn't work with 3000GT VR4's & Stealth TT AWD. If your clutch doesn't grab or smells then it's not strong enough you need a new one or try RPS Max series 6 puck sprung hub. Good Luck!

I hope this will put to rest all the misconceptions about VR4's & their ability to lunch.

And for those guys who like Vikid 1 who think how can it be. Remember John Shepherd's AWD Talon runs 7.81@185 and it's Mitsu's FF to AWD layout.

If your at a drag strip though you can't exactly get the car rolling first, your just going to have to side-step the clutch from a rest at whatever RPM works for your car

Re: Mitsu VR4

I reved it to 5500 and dropped the clutch. Car didn't so much as chirp a tire and I pulled 1.6 60ft times and high 12's with less than $300 in mine.

With the MBC I was running 17-18lbs of boost up from a factory 8or9psi.

Re: Mitsu VR4

BacDoc knows exactly what I am talking about. But as far as drag strip goes I roll up until the first staging light lights up then stop let of the clutch gently to get it to rool about 1/4 of a foot till second staging light lights up and press the clutch in but not all tha way just enough to disengage the clutch from the fly wheel. Then start revving up keep the throttle bouncing from 5200-5700 and off the clutch as quick as I can when I am ready to go. Just look @ second video and see how violent that lunch is. GTO jumped one car further then GTR R32. Common guys 1.6 60 foot is no joke for stock car.

Re: Mitsu VR4

I would think $5-$6K, I have friends @ GT-PRO who can always help me with parts. I have broken the transmission once warranty covered it the bill was $5200 installed with stronger components. Thanks for your Info because you have one of these cars & know their capabilities. And I don't look like a moron : ) when I tell SyTy guys I like 3000GT VR4 lunch better then SYTY's my Sy is 1.5 & 1.4 right now but we were talking about stock VS stock. Anyway thanks Bro.

Here is a vid of my Vr-4. I went 12.5 at 108 with a 1.74 sixty against a sc crossfire srt-6. That was my best 1/4 time. I am still on stock turbo's and drivetrain. I like the launch on the vr-4 never got to see or ride in a sy but hopefully soon i will, my buddy is looking for one so if any one is selling let me know. My mods were FMIC, exhaust, EBC, 550cc inj, Emanage ultimate, and some other stuff that just for looks. Are there any of yall in oklahoma? Would like to hang some time. Oh and not all vr-4 are slow, just like any car if the driver dont know how to launch they cant take advantage of the AWD. Jared

Re: Mitsu VR4

Nice Video Jared. Thanks for taking your time & letting the SYTY guys know about the VR4's & TT AWD's, I am a proud Syclone owner but I use to have a 96 3000Gt VR4 and I know from experience stock VR4 will lunch way harder then SY or TY. But when I drove my friends Evo I had to have one so now I still have my pride & joy Syclone as well as Evo RS & AE86. Thank You Jared for the video.

Re: Mitsu VR4

The aftermarket never seemed to catch on for the VR4s and Fairlady Zs like it did for the FD3 and Mark IV. I think Mitsubishi tried to accomplish too many things at once with the VR4 and ultimately ended up with a car that wasn't great at anything but top end. Just my opinion.

I like the look of them and the fact that they are AWD but the fact that there are so few of them really tuned indicates to me that either they are too expensive to work on or the after market for them is not all that great.

I found this one on cardomain and it's the nicest looking one I've seen to date.

Not that I don't believe you, your opinion is your opinion, but have your ever pushed the Sy to do a very high psi boost launch? I also would believe that the 3000 you had was a stick? Have you ever boost launched a Sy with 10+ psi?

Just when I compare these vehicals in my head I can't imagine what you could have done to make your VR4 launch noticably harder then the Sy agian comparing a stock VR4 to a stock Sy. I mean were talking about vehicals with similiar factory torque ratings and the VR4 ( correct me if I'm wrong ) tips the scale a little bit higher then the Sy does.

Maybe just one of lifes little mysteries ;)

Oh and Seti that car is badass looking

Re: Mitsu VR4

By looking at sy timeslips in the 12.5 range most of them have a slower trap speed and a faster 60' time. I would guess that tells me they are faster off the line? My friends stealth was stock and did not impress me. My stang would smoke it easy to 60mph. He would have me for a second till I found traction.
