Yes, I did this on my other typhoon. Sounds good almost like the atr exhaust. I didn't have any over boost problems.

Re: muffler delete

I deleted my ATR muffler on my truck after less than a month, too quiet... You will be OK as long as you leave the cat in place. If you opt to delete it, you will need to run an external wastegate to keep the boost spikes in check. Stock turbo plus no cat is a proven recipe for out of control boost in our applications.

This is the way I have had my truck for the last 3 years. In the early testing of these trucks GM was running this way too.

Re: muffler delete

No cat or muffler on mine. It does get quite noisy after a while, but no problems with mine either. I am running an external gate though....

Re: muffler delete

i see you hear the turbo spool with the pte DP. would you hear the turbo with a stock set up?

Re: muffler delete

yep, spool was loud as hell when I had the stock setup with just the stock open DP with a turndown on it.

Its just about 100x louder now with the 52 and 3" piping :)

Definately not for those states who have emissions testing. You can hear me coming down the street miles away.

Re: muffler delete

I never had a overboost prob on either setup with the stock or PTE52. I had a custom chip on both of them and made sure my WG rod was adjusted accordingly.

are you kidding, you cant hear anything?! you sure its a 4.3 turbo and not a CPI?! :rotf:

if you can find one, get a saudi cat. its basically a straightpipe masked as a catalytic. I dont suggest it though unless you have some sort of boost control.

I have a dual dynomax muffler setup going back on the truck.. looks stock..

when i first bought my sy back in 94 i only knew it was turbo awd and fast. lol. so i gutted the cat. opps crazy over boost.
i can hear the turbo only if i hit the gas for a sec with the brakes on. other than that nothing.

Re: muffler delete

Right now my truck is mostly stock when I bought it, it had no cat just a down pipe, resonator and a straight pipe. I didn't notice any boost problems but I only ran it w/o the cat just to get it home then I had to get the cat on for emissions. Anyways right now I have a straight pipe ran from the cat back and it i think it sounds alright. I can't hear the turbo spool in the cab either but the ppl I run w/ say they can hear it outside so eh. Oh and I have no muffler just the down pipe, straight pipe and cat its alright for now.

Re: muffler delete

what kind of mufflers are you guys running? Sounds like a straight thru muffler is the way to go over like a 2 or 3 chamber correct? 3" pipe also? What is the stock pipe size?
