Re: Muffler Recommendations

we also sell our mufflers separate. same thing as the 14" magnaflow, which ends up being about 20" OAL. 100% stainless, but cheaper then discounted magnaflows. email me if intersted.

as you have probably heard they are super quiet, and you really cant compare mufflers installed on a N/A V8, to your turbocharger v6.. apples to oranges in terms of sound.

I was using no muffer until I did the vortecs and cam swap. The truck was much louder so I used Mike's muffler. It really reduced the noise and looks real nice.

Re: Muffler Recommendations

Just the thread i was looking for. I need to redo my exahust for my ty and i heard RPM's on a syclone at the last meet i went to and i loved it. The only issue i see is that i want to get a three inch down pipe as well. JSManufactoring is not making any more of them at least for now. What can i do, any ideas?

Re: Muffler Recommendations

bringing it back.

after a couple years running my current system, i want to change it up again.

Right now i have a 3" downpipe with a QTP cutout at the bottom, into a round-style Magnaflow straight-thru, over the axle, into a oval-style Magnaflow straight-thru, and out the back. all 3" stainless, no Cat.

After driving it for a few years, it's too quiet. I find myself running with the dump open all the time. But with the dump open, the 4.3 sounds like butt unless it is WOT.

So this winter, i'm gonna build a new system. i'm thinking of just running a resonator, something like the SLP loudmouth, or a similar resonator. With a full length exhaust system, and no cutout.

I was pondering running a 4' long Powerstick from Classic Chambered, but i dont like the raspy sound and popping of a chambered glasspack (cherrybomb).

Is anyone running just a resonator?

Re: Muffler Recommendations

I just fabbed and exhaust for our shop truck and used Stainless Works, 3.5" "muffler". Its more of a resonator than a muffler. And is stainless steel. I have a 3" dp, and the exhaust is 3" stainless throughout, even did SS hangers and clamps. I dumped it before the rear axle. It sounds good. And it doesnt' drone. I will post some pics soon.

And we are a dealer for Stainless Works.

Re: Muffler Recommendations

im very happy with the sound of my borla xr1. Im running a full 3'' stainless exhaust with no cat. Its fairly quiet when i want it to be gut gets loud as F*CK when I get on it. Got a ticket for noise to prove it... Be ready to spend $250 on muffler alone thou

Re: Muffler Recommendations

I have no cat or muffler love the way it sounds, and no over-boost issues.

Re: Muffler Recommendations

I'll be the "quiet minority" that finds the open exhaust too loud and drony, particularly if you have any kind of advanced engine build.

I have a Borla stainless 3" on mine now, and I really don't like the highway speed sound, although it's not offensive.

My plan now is to go back to the stock pipes with Walker quietflow stainless mufflers from a Caddy CTS.

Re: Muffler Recommendations

Not to thread jack, but Dig, or anyone else, I have a complete exhaust from a cts V, so if you're in need of the mufflers, LMK

I'm in that minority. I think a larger turbo also adds to the volume of the exhaust. My engine has a lopey idle and with the open cutout i can almost hear my valves closing. When the turbo is in boost i need headphones to hear the radio. I just want a happy medium with good flow and a moderately loud sound.

Re: Muffler Recommendations

i pulled my system off, i'm gonna redo it and have it ready for the naste meet.

The old system, 72mm turbo, into 3" stainless downpipe, no cat, to the exhaust cutout, back to the first magnaflow, perforated tube glasspack 6" dia case, over the axle to the second magnaflow perforated tube glasspack oval case, and out the tip, all 3" stainless.

i stopped by summit and picked up a SLP 3" Shotgun resonator. to try and eliminate the highway drone.

i also got another 3" perforated tube magnaflow, this time a 4" dia case. So it'll be louder then the others i have.

My plan is to get rid of the electric cutout, put the resonator at the base of the downpipe. And only use 1 muffler in front of the axle. Then run pipe out the back, tuck the tailpipe up and put a little turndown right before the bumper.

In boost you cant hear anything but the turbo, but this should give it a little more rumble for idle and cruise.
