MUTANT Breathes again!

Some time back, Neildemo bought MUTANT SY from Robert Lone. After trying to get it running, he called me to see if I could help him out.

I had him bring it to Steve Morris Engines and we were to help sort out some of the current issues. We did away with Code $59 and installed a HOLLEY HP stand-alone, cleaned up a bunch of wiring, vacuum lines, heater hoses, replaced plug wires, relays, fittings, swapped out the stock turbo for a 60-1 (?) turbo he had there. Pay no attention to the coolant underneath the truck - that was me spilling as I filled the radiator . Also, need to add another front strap on the truck when its on the dyno (wiggles during a pull). We used the dyno instead of out on the street so we could be sure it didnt have any other gremlins pop up.

It is a completely different animal versus what it was when it arrived. I can tell you that this thing needs a bigger turbo and injectors for sure! This video doesnt do it justice - the truck sounds real nice!

Enjoy!

Re: MUTANT Breathes again!

Good for you guys. I was asked to "just get it running" and did.....barely. There's only been a couple of trucks that I was glad to see leave my shop....that was one of them.

(Not so) funny story....when Waller delivered the truck to me it had been sitting outside for a bit and the throttle linkage (which is outside of the hood) got rusty. First test drive I took with it, the linkage stuck at about 50% throttle coming back onto my farm and I four-wheel drifted for about 100 ft before I popped it in neutral and killed the ignition. Fun but SO glad it happened in the middle of 1000 acres and not on the highway.

Any goals for the truck , besides proper running condition ?

I will let the owner put his hopes/goals here. It starts and runs with no fuss as-is. The platform is there for more if he wants it.

Re: MUTANT Breathes again!

I was kind of wondering what ever happened with this truck. Good to see it running correctly again!

Awesome work Alex! I know Neil loves this thing and as much of a MUTANT it is, its great to see that its making progress, functional, and by the sounds of it going to be getting even better. I love to see the effort and looks like its yielding good results as well.

Just out of curiosity, do you work for Steve Morris?

Re: MUTANT Breathes again!

Steve is a real good friend. I have been there as an extra helper for a few years now. Sometimes I spent alot of time there...other months I dont. It really depends on my work travel schedule and his workload.

Re: MUTANT Breathes again!

While Visiting Alex and Buying some of his old gear We went to lunch and Stopped by Steve's shop. I Heard great things missed a few of his events which I regret. But here are some of the Cars he has worked on. The Station Wagon is his. Wouldn't mind going grocery shopping in that! :) My truck needed some TLC..Okay a lot of TLC. With me working out of state and Steve only being 2 hours away it made perfect sense. So I dropped it off and they not only stored it inside for me. They Custom Fabbed a few items, Cleaned up Wiring installed A Holly Dominator. Rewired 2 fuel pumps, Cooling Fans. List goes on I am out of state now but can't wait to see and Drive it.
