Need help w/front diff. leak!!!

My Sy's front diff. is leaking at the left side (driver)seal. My question is, how do I get to the seal? Do I have to remove the whole diff and split it or can i just do it with it in the truck? Another thing I have the factory manuals but can't find the procedure for that in there. Is it even in there and if it is where can I find it?
Thanks ahead,
Abe

Re: Need help w/front diff. leak!!!

remove driver's side wheel
jack up the a-arm a little
remove shock or at least bottom end
remove the steering arm from spindle
remove cv axle nut and cv-to-diff bolts
swing the cv shaft forward and out and remove
get a mallet and pop the diff flange out, its held in by a clip
replace seal
reverse of above

is it leaking from the seal or from behind the metal plate? the plate only has a bead of silicone, no gasket. the axle has a seal on it. and you dont hae to pull the plate to swap the seal.

Mine's leaking too at 70K miles (ugh). Our 97 GMC Sierra 4x4 leaks on both sides. GM sure knows how to build a great front IFS diff...geez. I'm thinking the Mobil 1 synthetic is exacerbating the situation even more, who knows.

Thanks for all the help, got it done last weekend. Pretty simple once you know what to expect.
