Re: Need opinions
...seems your asking the following (if I`m reading you right):
1. Will my vehicle value dimish?...
2. Will I get a "oh-my-gosh" reaction when the hood is up?...
3. Will I get a 10 sec Ty with my modifications?...
4. Can I get it to perform during modification (as I can't do everything all at once)...
5. Time is not a factor, neither is tools, parts, or experience (however I do have a limited budget)...
IMHO (Answers):
1. Nope - you already changed the value by removing A/C, ABS, Cruise etc
2. Unless you hang around SyTy folks, most don't know these engine compartments
anyway (ie intercooler? turbo sizing? v6 or v8? awd? ground effects? lowered blazer?)
And most folks are impressed by layout, cleanliness, and whether it runs good
(ie Roberts Sy, Gerbers Ty, Ed's Sy, etc).
3. Anything is possible, but do you want consistent back-2-back 10sec et's or
"one" only run? Durability/reliability is much more difficult and costly.
4. Adding parts via piecemeal over time is easier to tune (ie baselining), but it also
cause breakage (fast engine -> broken tranny -> suspension/traction needs ...etc)
5. V6 parts are just too expensive (forged crank, bowtie block, etc) for bullet proof
bottom end. V8s are cheaper but are heavier. One can see the work Ed Hess
put into his Sy (twin turbo) and the work Robert put into his (single turbo) to
see what it takes to consistently perform (and perhaps be the fastest).
If cheaper is goal, then V8. If impressing SyTy.net is goal, then V6.
If complexity is goal then TT. If performance is goal, then copy Robert, Hoover's etc.
Lastly, if its not clear what you want to do with the vehicle (ie your goals)
decide if you like to "work" on the vehicle (engineer, design, fabricate, etc) more so;
or Race-only; or Show, or Cruise/Street race. There are a ton of guys who
start out with unclear motives and peter out (selling with a poor running
vehicle with pennies on the dollar). The fact your talking about a Ty and not
a Sy is a bit different also (shorter wheel base, more weight, less used
for Race-only vehicles, etc).
Summary: If you want the be the 1st to accomplish a particular look/performance,
then form your own designs. If you want to copy previous owner successes,
then figure out what it took them to complete their vehicles (money, time, parts, etc).
And if you want to compete with newly purchased muscle vehicles (z06s, vipers,
shelby gt500s, hemi challengers, 8-sec GNs etc) then rethink if a Ty is the best way
to win these matchups.
