Newb from Oklahoma

Been a member for a bit, but havent logged on much, primarily following along on FB.

But today we finally brought #1051 home to begin renovations. My g/f actually found and bought this truck a few years ago out of El Paso, TX. Yup, its a girls truck, she has awesome taste! But sadly someone used #1051 as a work truck, then a salvage yard was going to part it out til we found it and made a deal, so its still a clean title truck fortunately.

She's rough and she's ugly thanks to someone who literally painted this nasty red over the original black...yeah, those stripes are the original black, they masked it off and painted straight over the factory color

On the upside, the only thing that has been modified, is the exhaust. This truck is bone stock and COMPLETE. The interior has all the key pieces which is a plus!

The goal is a low 11 to high 10 second build. We plan on scouting the board and searching threads til one of us has an aneurysm :rotf:. Probably gonna ask a few dumb questions on FB also, so bear with us. The goal is to do this once and do this properly

Input and advice would be appreciated! Here we go!

Nice project find.

What are the miles on the truck? How about does the title appear to be clear.. Notice you mention it was found at a salvage yard?

Thanks, It has a little over 100k on the clock currently

The paperwork was never filed as "salvage" the guy was going to if nobody bought the truck. It was sold to us by a "dealer" so i assume he had his dealers license as well. We didnt have any hiccups registering it fortunately

Re: Newb from Oklahoma

Just take your time. Fix it up right and have fun working on it. I get a lot of enjoyment working on my trucks.

I am from OK. Moved to TN for work. Have lots of family still there. I will be helping my brother-in law in OKC do some work on his 76 Trans am 455 when the weather gets a little warmer. I now have his Quadrajet here waiting to be rebuilt. It has been over 30 years since I touched on of those. Should be interesting.

There are a few people around here that can help you out. With info and probably with finding parts.

Re: Newb from Oklahoma

Mirrors definately not original, but looks like a nice find. I actually kind of like the red, just too bad they went and painted over the original black, minus the stripes... I think that will make a great project. Is the cladding still in good condition?

Yup, mirrors have been replaced. The red would look good, i agree, but minus stripes and perhaps a quality job :rotf:

Cladding is all there and complete minus the driver side rear wheel arch, it was broken. We already have a replacement piece though along with another front bumper
