Plastic Rear Bumper Support

I pulled the rear bumper off my 92 Ty and noticed that it is plastic, magnet check. I was surprised at the weight and checked a spare one I have and it is steel. The one I have is slightly tweaked and am curious if anyone still makes them.

When I bought my Ty years ago the owner knew nothing about the history.

Funny you mention this.... Many many years ago, maybe 95-96 ish time frame? I found a red Ty for sale. Being the delinquent that I was, I popped the front cover off of it and noticed an egg crate style support behind it. Ive never seen another one like it. Maybe there was a company making them back in the day?

It looks just like the stock piece. I would not have noticed it if I didn't have a spare steel one.

I will pull the bumper cover off next weekend and see if there are any markings on it.

I gave it a deep scrap and it is aluminum. Feeling a little stupid as my nail scratch test failed me. Curious if anyone still makes these. Mine has a little tweak in it so I may just try to clamp it up to my spare steel one, heat it up, and see if I can fix the issue.

The support weighs about 2 lbs w/ the small steel bracket mounts, using my crappy garage scale.

The aluminum ones are common on 1992 typhoons probably some 1993.

I had a few. Nothing out of the ordinary. Are they still made? I think production stopped in 1992-1993?

Interesting, my spare is from a 93 and is steel. I have a 3rd but will have to check it.
