I just had the front dif replaced. It wasn't the dealer... Anyway, I have just read that one should mark the shaft to ensure that it gets replaced in exactly the same way or it will be out "of phase." Interesting... I have no idea if the guy who switched out the dif did this. I bring this up for the simple fact that I have a new, and annoying sound. I sounds like a metal rattle, kind of a high pitched noise. It is difficult to discern where it's coming from because you only hear it at speed, and when there is something beside you to deflect the sound (like the guardrail on the interstate).
My question would be this... Is there some super-cool Jedi way to check for this? Is there a factory mark of some kind? I assume the only other thing to do is to dissassemble it, rotate it 90 degrees, listen for sound, rinse, repeat. I don't look forward to that... I have taken the wheels off three times looking for anything loose or shiny and can't find the source of the friggin' noise. I'd hate to unass the pavement at 90mph somewhere...
Any and all ideas welcomed!
