Need any suggestions on removing my torq converter cover. Why the HELL did the factory use torqs head bolts??? Are they retarted?? Well anyway they keep stripping out my t-45 and t-47 torq sockets and now i'm stuck. What have you guys done in the past for stubborn bolts? The engine and trans is out so its easy to get to but i need help!! Thanks!

First, use a punch and hammer and try to work it around. The punch will catch and the shock from hitting it sometimes breaks it free.
2nd Use a flat cutting wheel like the ones with a dremel and cut a slot that a LARGE flat head screw driver will fit in.
3rd, Grind the head off flush and take the TC inspection cover off.
You can then use a pair of vise grips(be patient)and try to get it out of the bellhousing. If no worky, take a propane torch and heat the bolt and then spray the joint where the bolt meets the bellhousing with PB blast. You may have to apply a little more heat and PB(you'll see it boil), then the stud will break free. Had to do this on mine after a torx stripped.

PS How the heck did the tranny come out with the inspection cover in place? I mean, how did they get it off the flywheel? Unless they pulled EVERYTHING at the same time....

hehehe....... well I picked up a "smashed at one time Ty" The body looked ok but the frame was tweaked pretty hard and things just weren't right with the suspension. So I picked up a 94 Olds Bravada with no motor or trans and I'm dropping the Ty drive terrain in there. When I attempted to pull everything in one shot (front clip off as well) the problem I ran into was that the oil pan hit the front diff and wouldn't clear the body so I cut the frame just past the torsion bar cross member and slid it right out  Now, to put it in the Olds, I either need to drop the tranny and do the motor seperate or what i'm thinking is take out the body bolts and jack up the body enough for the engine to clear the front diff. We'll see what happens. One cool thing about all this; the Olds has a factory 3:73 gear set in it :D Should make for a fun 4 dr. truck!!!

WOOHOO....my plan worked!! I took out all the body bolts and jacked the body up and put a 3 inch cinder block between the body and the frame; had the chain and motor pitched at a good angle and it slid right in :D No problems at all!!! Glad I didn't have to take off the tranny... I was really dreading that but all is good! Hopefully if all goes well, i'll have it running this weekend!

You a crazy man!!! Good job finding a way around a problem. Have you already swapped out the wiring harness?
Blake
PS:was the transfer case and everything still attached or just the tranny and engine?

Man i am stoked!! It was the motor and tranny, still have to bolt up transfer case yet. Over the past 2 hrs. I got the engine and trans in; body bolted back down; all my wiring harness is in and plugged in; and intracooler is in!!! I'm ready to hang the clip back on it now and do the last couple things. Think i'll save the transfer case for tomorrow.

use a die grinder to remove the heads from those bolts and then remove the bolts with some pliers, once the cover is gone. besides you dont want that cover on there anywho. it traps a shit load of heat.
