Who are some people that make or can make roll bars for sy's. I am interested in having a rear behind the seats bar that can be permanent and then side bars that can be pinned in when at tracks and taken out for street driving.

any help is appreciated

You can call Chassis Enginering in florida, i am going to have them do a cage for me soon and they said 800.00 for a 6 point chromoly installed. Roughly 60lbs .

Have they put any in syclones?
Best bet would be to call Dennis on Monday and discuss it with him - my Ty is there right now 8) so he could easily do some measurements and go over options. He has done zillions of roll cages including S10's.

The Syclone is a bit different - are you willing to cut through the rear of the cab or replace the rear window with Lexan and cut through it. There are some issues with water leakage and squeaking depending on how you seal the spaces around the "through" bars. It is possible to do some sort of abbreviated cage or a roll bar wholly within the cab as well. Lucky for you :D my Syclone is also there so if you call him you can discuss this too.

Does anyone else wish GMC had built an extended cab Syclone? No storage, no place to mount a system, no place to mount a proper cage...

Feel free to post back to the BB what he says.

Are you getting a cage for your sy put in now? What kinda work do you do Sandman?
I've spoken to Dennis about a cage - what I said above is what I recall he told me - but so far I haven't committed to one. I'd prefer if one of you guys went first on the cage, just so I don't have to feel like all of the SyTy prototyping at PEP is being done on my trucks.

Me? I put people to sleep, wake 'em up, and stick long needles in different places to make 'em numb. I'm an anesthesiologist..get it? Sandman...sleep...Anesthesiologist.

They did...
It's called a Typhoon :D :D
Plenty of room for a cage, fuel cell, system, toolbox, luggage, spare tire, jack, lifeboat, kitchen sink, hell we brought twice that to KC the first year.

I *do* make a lot of friends...and no one ever gives me grief - at least until surgery is *over*.

okay...this topic just went to hell in a hand basket...Sandman: What do you think about what happened to Lingenfelter? His story is on his website but apparently he went in for a follow-up surgery but his anesthesiologist screwed up by their accounts.

From an anesthesia course I took several years ago...

Well, the people who wrote the website story obviously believe that the "pre-anesthetic" was to blame. Perhaps he got too much which caused respiratory arrest. Or the wrong medication, a drug interaction with some other medications he was on, a severe allergic (anaphylactic) reaction, or an unrelated complication of his injuries. No way to tell from the limited information given. Plenty of romm for speculation though...

I damn near died at age 12 in the OR when the anesthesiologist gave me Ancef and my body almost hit the "shut down switch". Guess I was allergic to to one thing after all

you need to find someone local who does chassis work. Not sure where you live, but there are guys everywhere. I would strongly suggest not buying a bolt in kit, or some pre-fabricated unit. I believe I have the s10 blueprints saved on the computer (if it helps), b/c we were going to build some roll bars that bolted in.. mainly for looks.

We have done some cages, and you can get some ideas here:

OK, ATD a 4 point cage would fit in a Syclone, a 6 point would require cutting through the back of the cab. The 4 point would be for driver safety only - no significant chassis stiffening. It would be welded in the vehicle and bolted to the floor (with heavy plates - very beefy). The door bars *could* be the cotter pin disconnect type but these are not *nearly* as safe as the solid bars. In fact Dennis considers any cage with the removeable sections *for looks only*. With a custom fitting and installation the solid bars should not be too much of an access impediment. The 6 point cage would be welded to the frame under the cab (some holes would be cut in the floor pan) and bolted to the frame under the bed (could be welded but would make it *difficult* to remove the bed). The 6 point cage would significantly stiffen the chassis. Dennis estimates around $1200-1500 to do this right.

Dennis could do a custom 4 point Syclone chromemoly roll cage installation for the same $800 as quoted above. Is the Chassis Engineering cage a kit or is it custom made? Custom made fits better :D

If they are really putting in a 6 point in a Syclone for that price that's pretty good. Where are they cutting through the cab, and how are you sealing it up?

A 6 point in a Typhoon is no problem.

The cage from chassis enginering would be a custom bend and the 2 bars going to the bed would go threw the window so plexi glass would be in order, but i still think i want them to build it a 6 point threw the window and when i get home with the truck i would modify the rear bars so they could be taken in and out for the track.
I figure i could cut the bars up high in the cab and then by the bed and make some 4-5 inch long sleeves with cotterpins for easy removal and just cover it up with the padding.
I was thinking i could go to the track a few times first before i did that and let the tech guys see it is okay and built rite by chassis and then after a 3-4 visits and they remember the truck maybe they would not inspect it so close and when i get home i take the bars out and reinstall the rear window and just ride with a nice 4 point cage on the street. No matter what i am not driving around the street with a roll bar petruding threw the back window. :D

I had a cage installed in my truck last summer, cost me a lot more then $800 but it was done by local chassis shop that does pro mod cars and what not so I felt comfortable spending my money with him, the cage is not bolted to the floor either (which is not legal if memory serves me right, even if a sandwich weld is done) my guy welded outriggers to the frame and dropped the cage through my floor. Any cage in a Sy has to go through the rare window or else its not any more legal for the track then without the cage. Personally I would rather drive down the street with the bars sticking out the window and be safe then to skirt the rules just cause I don't like the way it looks. If you want to go fast and hide the cage, get a ty and do a nice cage tucked in like mike lee. Ed

I still say , something is better than nothing, a 4 point cage is going to be strong if its done rite and welded in.
Just look at how many people are running fast with no cage at all. What is in hoovers truck or mrsyclone has a bolt in hoop , i think.

I would rather not have a cage but i like to race at the track and 1 pass per outing gets old. :-?
