Shaft broken?!

So I'm looking at my front diff cleaning it up and painting parts of it and when I pulled on the drivers side cv shaft flange it slid right out. To me it looks like the end that goes into the diff is sheered off but when I look into the diff it looks to be fine. It also slid out without any effort. Is there supposed to be an end on the shaft for a c-clip like the rear axles?

Hmmm Wonder why it broke there? Ain't much beyond the clip. Something else is wrong I suspect. Pull the other side, you should be able to see all the way through. Kinda like looking in my ear. You can see all the way through...

I bought the truck with a bad engine and am now doing a frame off resto so I have never driven it. How do I pull the other shaft? Do I need to unbold the case and split it in half?

Nope they just snap out. Push out and hold, taking up all the slack, then give it a good healthy whack and it comes out.

BTW There's a snap ring that lives in that grove. You might want to split the case and look for it anyway.

I took apart the front diff and found the broken piece and the clip. Everything looks fine inside. I am still in need of a shaft. Please let me know if you have one.
