Ran search..not much luck.

couple things.
How do I adjust shifter? Handle will not go all the way down to first gear? Can cable be adjusted? Replacement Cable available?

Button. Mine sits down low in handle. How can i get it to sit back up higher like its supposed to? Anyone gone with aftermarket handle of some sort?

Last q. Handle ...how does it come off? I dont see a set screw or anything anywhere. I need to remove it so I can take console appart and look at cable and grease up shifter mechanism.

Thanks in advance.

Zach,

This is how I adjust the shifter.

Jack up the truck and loosen the bolt on the shift arm on the transmission. Place the transmission in neutral. Now get in the cab and place the shifter in neutral. Get back underneath and tighten the bolt.

The shift button can be pried off with a small screwdriver, if I remember right. Be careful not to damage the button.

Beautiful. I will do that shortly. I have to get the shifter head off so I can get the little indicator thingy fixed. the screws that attach the indicator to the cover are broken. Time for some McGyvering.
Once the indicator is fixed I will adjust the arm on the tranny.

A few tips.....

The shifter button comes off by being pryed (like Jim said). If your's is sitting low, it's prolly loose and will be easy to pry off. Once it's out of the way, there is an external snap ring that holds the shifter "head" onto the shaft. Pry it off (it's fairly stout, but a small pair of needle nose pliers can do the job if you don't have any snap ring pliers). The shifter bezel and leather boot will just lift off now (once the two indicator lights are unplugged and the 2 screws in the front cupholder are removed).

To get the cap to stick up a little higher, try bending the little metal legs inward to bite down harder over the shifter tip. Or try shimming the button out a little. I did this on a truck a long time ago. Can't remember what I used to shim it with, but any little shard of something will work. Make sure to adhere it in place or else it'll drop out with use.

As far as the indicator bezel screws are concerned.....if the plastic bosses are broken off then you can glue them back on. Remember that it doesn't take much torque to get those screw to hold the indicator bezel in place, so glue should hold. However, if the bosses are too broken or missing (as was the case with a friend's truck not long ago), then you can run to the local hardware store and find a small bolt/nut combo to fit the bezel. Make sure the bolt is short enough that it doesn't stick thru the nut with bezel inbetween the two (make sense?). The trick is to glue the nut to the bottom side of the shifter bezel and then hold the indicator bezel in place with the screw. Works well and you never see it. Hey, you did mention McGyver'ing. :D

BTW, when putting the shifter bezel back in place, make sure the shifter indicator tab goes over the shifter pin or else the indicator won't move with the shifter. You'll see what I mean.

Hell yeah//I acutually understood what you said. The rear most tab is cracked off, but I figured super glue and a little bracket that shares the screws that hold the boot on would provide enough support. Now I have to get out there tonight and get er done!
