Re: SoCal roll call...
What a Rush.....lol
Here I am walking through the masses at Pomona Winternationals and out of 2.5 gazillion people wandering around....I see a SoCal SyTy T-Shirt up ahead of me.......hunched in a corner, head down low, mumbling and swinging his arms at anyone that gets within 2 feet of him
Even without seeing the faces (I was coming up behind them), I knew who it was....lol
Long ass curly hair, cup in the air, beer pouring down his chin, and a 15 inch hot dog ready to be devoured (being used as a crowd control weapon)
Of all the damn places to run into Scott & Steve, how funny
It was great to see you guys again
Lynn & I talk about the Sy/Ty meetings of past and always have a good laugh
I miss the Red Typhoon, I had a chance to buy it back from the gentleman that I sold it to (about 5 months ago), but he either kept it, sold it to someone else, or he just did not like my offer cause i never heard back from him
Yeah i also sold my GNX #485
I bought it for $36K with 19 thousand miles on it, drove it for 6 months, put 6000 more miles on it, took it to the dragstrip 4 or 5 times, and ended up selling it for $43K to a guy in Minnesota who kept it for 1 month and sold it to a guy in NY (sold it for $40K) who still has it.
I then found a 1990 Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette (#36 of 58) out in Raleigh, NC with only 11,000 original miles on it. Lynn and I flew out to NC, bought the car, and drove it back to Cali over a 4 day period. I had the Callaway for almost 6 months and had fun with it. 400 HP, 585 ftlbs torque, top speed 191 mph.....very cool car, but not so fast at the drag strip (mid 13's) at 107mph (I hate 6 speeds....lol)
Last August i found a 1986 Buick T-Type / Grand National that went up for sale in Maryland (What's up with all these nice cars on the EAST Coast???...lol). Had 52,000 miles, dyno'd out at 550 RWHP at 24 lbs of boost, and ran a 10.70 at 127 mph in the 1/4 mile. The car was set up real nice. Someone spent a butt load of money on lots & lots of go fast parts
Stock 109 block, stock crank, stock rods, stock pistons, Cold Air Induction, 210/210 roller cam, 1.55 T&D roller rockers, roller lifters, double timing chain, Aluminum race heads, ATR Headers & Crossover, ATR 3" downpipe with external wastegate, 3" dual exhaust, GTQ 71 turbo, 70 mm throttlebody, Front mount intercooler, 4 row radiator, 75 lb. injectors, Bank to Bank FAST system & wide band o2 - with cockpit mounted Dell laptop computer, ATR double fuel pumps, built tranny, 3600 stall non lock up convertor, air bags in the rear springs, competition lower control arms, line lock, bilstein shocks all the way around, big ass rear sway bar, New M/T ET Street radials in the back with skinnies up front, beautiful body, interior, hardtop, lots of chrome under the hood, plus lots, lots more.....all for the price of $14,750.00
Needless to say, I sold the Callaway in less than a week, flew out to Maryland, bought the GN, and drove it all the way back to Cali, skinny front tires and all. I had a blast. The car ran great, i had people trying to race me across 7 states, but I stayed right at the speed limit cause i really did not want any police trouble along the way
Since August, I have detuned the car for Cali 91 octane gas (430 RWHP at 14 lbs of boost), I put 5,000 more miles on the car, and about 1.5 months ago i took it to California Speedway and ran an 11.20 at 125.4 mph with a real slow 1.9 sixty foot time (Big Q trim turbo spools like a pig off the line, but once it starts pulling, watch the hell out..)
Car had developed some very minor issues along the way, seemed to rattle (valve train area) a bit at part throttle (was that way when i bought it), and I was always leary about why the previous owner never built the bottom end of the engine when he threw all the hipo goodies on it, so in December I decided to pull the engine and build up a strong bottom end to match all the upper end goodies. I found a 109 block that had already been hot tanked, mag'd, line bored .030 over, torque plated, decked, etc. and I had the shop add a Eagle Steel crank, billet steel main caps, race prepped rods, diamond pistons, a new 218/218 roller cam, new roller lifters, BHJ balancer, JW flywheel, and a blueprinted competition front cover & oil pump
I swapped everything from the old block over to the new setup and i currently have 537 miles on the car since i re-installed the engine. I have played with the tuning, i have kept the boost to below 15 lbs, and i have been plagued with the bullshit little oil & water leaks that always seem to materialize once you start breaking open factory seals.
Car sounds great, looks great, and is running real nice. I want to put some more miles on it before I turn the wick back up to 24 lbs of boost, and get it back on the Dyno to see what kind of power I can lay down now. I'm hoping for 600 RWHP and close to 750 HP at the engine.........If not, then piss on it, i'll sell it and find another one that can make those numbers....lol
I will plan on making it to an upcoming meeting to see everyone again
Best of luck to you all
Later
