Solved the 60' and new best time.

Well made it out the the track today. I made some changes to the way the suspention is set up.

First I backed off the torsen bar mounts and dropped the front end about another 3/4"

Second I installed 2" tall poly bump stops for my limiters so that I could crank them down and preload it agaist the suspention. I got Barb (wife) to sit on the front fender while I tightened them down so set up like this the front end was about 1.5" down now.

Third I moved the Caltrac bar in the upper position so that they hit the rear end more and tried to pick up the front end less. It gets the rear diff to dig more.

Fourth I took out the preload in the Caltracs and have about 1/16" clearance.

Fifth I set the QA1 rear shocks at number 3 instead of 12.

Tire pressures where 20psi front and 19psi back on the BFG's.

My thinking was that the front end was still coming up to much and with the caltracs and stiff rear suspention if was just pivoting on the rear tires.

Now set up like this the front barely comes up and the rear end squats down nicely.

Now the results.

first run about 23-24psi and 8 psi launch.

60'---1.624
330'---4.528
1/8---6.995
MPH---99.60
1000'---9.133
1/4---10.940
MPH---122.41

Second run 26-27 psi and 12 psi launch

60'---1.513
330---4.417
1/8---6.893
MPH---99.56
1000'---9.041
1/4---10.850
MPH---124.67

Third run 30psi and 14-15 psi launch

60'---1.504
330---4.375
1/8---6.838
MPH---100.06 (yay finally broke thru :D )
1000'---8.969
1/4---10.79
MPH---123.49

There was very minimal tire spin and the truck ran great.

This is at a race weight of 4100.
I think that will be it for this year my wife needs to drive the truck to work for a month or two  while I build her Typhoon. I have had a set of Green Dots on order for about 3 weeks they are out of core tires. If they show up for the final Oct 10th race I might head out.

Will you need to realign the front end? Don't know if dropping it will affect the alignment. Wouldn't want to see you waste a pair of tires if you do.

Ya I will need to get it aligned. For now I am going to put it back up at height for the wife to drive over the winter or something I will get Tony to align it at the lower ride height.

hey nolan by putting the caltrac pickup higher, arent you making it so it hits the rear tires softer. Usually the lower the pickup point, the more it will try and hit the tire. 1.50 60ft is pretty darn impressive for a 4100lb truck :)

I talked to some local racers using the caltracs. They said on there cars they hit the tires harder in the up position. Who really knows I think every combo works out differnt. I just know it worked for me :D Atleast I know I can now think about building up a bigger better combo and get the power to the ground.

Anyone know where I can get lexan side windows for a Typhoon?

I guess I will be drilling holes in everying over the winter.

AWESOME passes 8) ! One hundred in the furlong is flyin'... Good thing you got the "wheel standing" ty's front wheels back on terra firma or else you would have to get a special license if you wanted to go all the way down the track on only the back two   !

from a review of caltracs on dragracingonline.com this month:

And just like a sophisticated 4-link suspension, the bars used on Calvert’s car (Cal-Tracs) allow for easy adjustment. The bars can be moved for more pre-load and they include a pair of forward mount holes. By moving the force link bar to the lower mount location, the instant center moves further forward. This means that very nose heavy applications can still be made to transfer weight to the rear (and consequently hook).

fwiw i have yet to try this.

I tried the lower hole when I had my Caltracs. It took to much weight off of the front and I just lit everything up. It may have some beneifit to the sy as because of the longer wheel base and less overhang weight in the rear.

Nolan is on the right track as I also had to soften the hit on my ty to keep the front down. A 2wd would be just the opposite as you would not need to keep the front planted.

That is what I am finding also on the rear.

What is sold is almost always for rear wheel drive applications and instant centers that are needed for that.

In our application, we don't really need nor want the transfer to the rear. In fact all the motion of the truck rearward to "Plant the rear" is wasted motion/time.

On my last run I had two people watching my truck closely at the line one watching the rear and one watching the front of the truck.

The guy watching the front said the front end lifted very slightly and the tires spun about two times before they grabbed and got traction.

The guy watching the rears said the rear end sank and the rear tires had ZERO wheel spin.

I am very happy with the launch now and some 16-17psi launches could be in the future. I just hope my TurboTony trans will hold up it has been awesome so far but I know I am pushing my luck. I will be reading Ed's write up on the T-400 again as I plan to make some changes for the truck over winter for some more powar.

Well no one has really found out yet. I am pulling the motor this winter to have a look so I will have more info then. If it all looks good it will go back together with some upgrades.

As far as manifolds I feel the turbo is still the biggest restiction.

Intake can be opened up enough to deal with the vortec heads. If I went to bowties or brodix heads I might change it.

And ECM these is no limit.

Hey Nolan, I saw a while back where you said you ported your own manifolds. Where did you take out material and how much? Got any pictures?
