You probably remember this Ty from the previous thread:

http://www.syty.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=39453

Drove it home last Thrs 500 miles with no problems whatsoever. Since then it has been gone over by a couple friends who are much more of mechanics than I. The only real issues they mentioned needed addressed was the DFI needing adjusted to correct the richness and something of a pre-ignition problem. Other than that I will be putting in a polyurethane front end kit so it tightens up the front end. The play wasn't so bad, but at 120-130mph it was very scary, lol. Also, a BOV to help the turbo out, as well as sound better than the reverse spooling sputter noise they make without one.

Also, underneath all that heatwrap was a beautiful stage 1 turbo and A2A upgrade, as well as a host of other KB upgrades, some that weren't even listed in the auction. Besides the laptop it came with about a decade worth of receipts and correspondence from previous owners between them and KB regarding upgrades done to it, and it even had the original window sticker.

I am sure I will be posting many questions in the future as I tune and trick this truck, so thanks in advance for everyone's help.

Oh, and not sure about a 12.6, but even wiith the ignition problems it currently has, Friday it beat an overhauled Lightning that runs a solid 15.0 by about 1-2 car lengths.

I'd fly BG in,pay him, and get it tuned.
Keep your foot out of it until it's issues are resolved  Don't wanna throw a rod through the block.

What'cha give for it?

Don't go full thottle if it has preignition problems (especially if you don't know what that means) I would guess 99% of the people who blow the motor in a SyTy is because of that. As for 1-2 car lengths, that is embarassing, the mena a mid to high 14 sec trucl. You should a beat sec car by about 15-20 car lengths is that 12.6 is true, even atleast 10 car lengths if run mid 13's.

Thanks for the tips on the ignition issues. I have been pulling out at the slightest sound of knocking, but I did hear it ever so slightly so I know it's there. It's getting garage kept until it gets tuned in, but I just had to give it a lil romp.

I know a guy in town who is going to help dial it in. He has Accel 7 DFI installed on his Syclone, and he currently holds the track record at the local dragstrip here in town (not with it however, 8.08 @ 177mph in a 98 Mustang) so he knows what he is doing.

oh, I paid just under 10 for it btw.

as a good deal that may be debateable, but behind the wheel I feel like it's worth twice that, so I am quite happy.

If you can hear it that is very bad. Every time you hear pinging, their is chance you can blow the motor, especailly if it had the stock rods and pistons. Since you have a built motor that helps, but its a little scary in that how long has it been pinging for (and the previous owner seemed clueless about the truck)

The owner never mentioned the ping, you only hear it at nearly 5k RPMs which I have rarely gotten it to. So either he didn't want to mention it or he never ran it that hard. Since even Jer didn't mention it I assume it was just not ran as hard as I have ran it the past few days.

I also talked to the owner prior to him who sold the truck at 50k miles. He said he had just finished a complete rebuild with a new cam, forged pistons, rods, and whatever else. I assume he did a great job because the last owner put 30k miles on it in time he had it and there is no leaks to speak of and I guess the tuning will fix the knock.

I worked in a shop for 3 years wrenching, but we just handled maintenence and lightwork, never any R&R work. So even though I know my way around a truck, a lot of this is new to me.

i would stay very close to that guy...pay him or do whatever you have to do to fix these issues...chances are you'll get away with this, but you have to find the cause of the knock...could be anything...even a bad alternator or a clogged up fuel filter could cause audible knock...don't rule anything out until it's been verified...these guys are right...if you have to drive it, stay out of boost...

The alternator is brand new so scratch that. Haven't gotten to replacing filters, but will be eventually. I also have the receipt from where he put in new wires/plugs on Oct 14th.

It's not a ping-ping-ping-ping noise, to put it like my mech/friend says "it's like a handful of marbles". Sounds random, not rythmic.

I don't think it has ever hit 5, just *near* I believe a few times.

The computer is "standalone Accel 6 DFI, 3 map, Calmap software". I hardly know what any of that means to be honest.

Old technology with less capability than the stock ECM has.

Is fairly straight forward and simple, but that is the problem it is almost too simple.

gen 6 is ok as far old school goes but I would seriously look into a gen 7 look at what its done for Ed. if you need help with tuning it let me know I am slightly familiar with the accel dfi stuff.

As mentioned earlier, if you HEAR knock...........you've got a LOT of it. As a matter of fact, I was in TheJokr's Sy the other day with 16 degrees of KR and didn't hear any audible knock.

Do yourself a favor and start fixing all those problems that you thought were no big deal.......

It will save you from buying a new motor.

Hook up DM, and once you get 0 knock.....have all kinds of fun. You'll experience a whole new truck! :)

Congrats on entering the bloody knuckles neighborhood.

I personally spent 23 hours on my truck this weekend...... :drinking:
