My trucks STARTER took a crap on me today where can i get one??

You can get them at any autoparts place. Don't buy a cheapie though. I ended up replacing my autozone cheapy in my Ty 2 twice in 6500 miles (13 month period)

I bought a starter from Race Car OE Supply. I haven't installed it yet, but they were very nice, free shipping and no core charge. The guy was excited about SyTy business from the board.

I'll sell you my stock starter for 20 bucks! I replaced it with a tahoe starter since my solenoid went out on it. lmk.

I agree with Dgoodhue about Autozone.
I tried their cheapy starter and it konked out in a week.
I also tried their top of the line Gold Series with lifetime warranty and......it wouldn't fit.

Ended up buying a CVR race started at Summit so I wouldn't have to worry about it. Since our trucks have little quirks I figure buy Quality the first time and if/when a problem arises I can rule out the starter as a source.

I'm using a CVR pro-torque starter (pn #171-5323 at Jegs'). It's around $150. I really like it, completely different sound, more clearance and less weight compared to the stock piece...

They must of sold you the wrong starter from Auto Zone. I have the brand new one from them and its almost been 2 years and not a problem. Its the mini starter from the tahoe. It was a dream to install.

I've had the CVR-5323 and now I have the Tahoe starter.

I like the Tahoe much better.
Seems to spin up quicker.

The gearing on teh CVR just makes more noise and turns the engine over slower.
When it was cold I'd notice an extra second or so before it would fire up with teh CVR.

i have a Gear reduction on mine. i went to GM and bought the replacement starter 1st. after an hour of trying to shove it in there i fliped it off and took it back. i then bought my current starter, which is actually made for high performance marine equipment. yep, a boat starter. but it took me 5 min to put it and i didnt have to shim it or anything. plus the gear reduction sounds cooler than the original.

i didnt get the boat starter from GM though, i got it from a local starter alternator place. price was about $160
