Steering stabilizer thoughts.

Yesterday, I put a steering stabilizer on my Typhoon and I gotta tell you I love the improvements. Both my trucks are low mileage and the suspenisions are tight. My ty in particular has 37K miles, stock air ride lowered by 1 inch blocks, front lowered about 1 inch, ST sway bar on the rear and stock wheels and tires. Now my truck does not follow the ruts as easily, hitting pot holes does not result in the front shaking. It really firmed up the front end even more and it rides really nice. Well, as nice as a truck can ride. Now if only I could get this damn groaning noise when I release the brakes to go away.

Scott -

I used the Rancho, which uses their 5000 shock, and am real happy w it. The big question is - does your Centerlink have the extra hole 4 the Stabilizer tapered shaft to fit into ?

i think the last time i was under it i saw some braket that looked like it was for a stabilizer on my center link so i will have to check

Does the rancho kit fit right in and what do you order it for 93 ty or just s10/s15? thanks

Scott,

The bracket is welded to the frame because I guess some of the other S-10/15 models had a Stabilizer. The end of the shock bolts into the bracket. Why the SyTy's didn't have the Stab. is a mystery - maybe they ran out of dough on the project ? That happened on the TTA project, and they left off some shit.

I was talking about the Centerlink. My Ty had a xtra hole on the replacement CL that accepts the tapered Stab. bolt or link that will slip into it. I don't know if the stock CL's had that hole, assuming they might have bothered to make a different CL w/o the hole for the models that didn't get the Stabilizer. Apparently there is a CL model w/o the hole according to some of the guys that have posted in the past. Just check your CL for an unused hole right next to the Pass side Inner Tie Rod connection.

I used the rancho as well.
Major imrovement on the highway over rough lane changes etc.

Mine had the bracket welded to the frame but no hole in the cl.
Had to use Rancho's clamp on bracket.
For the money this is a necessary mod.

I have the rancho as well - great upgrade to match the 275's and 315's on my truck. Eliminates a ton of the wander.

If you have large wheels and tires, you'll be happy to have it.

I was thinking of putting one on my 93' Ty. What part number the Rancho? How long did the install take?
I have a slightly bent wheel, will this help eliminate some of that highway shimmy? Thanks!

The install took about 20 minutes laying on my back. Most of the work was removing/reinstalling the plastic skid plate. Very easy install. As far it elimanating shimmy, I won't use it as a band-aid for fixable problems but to enhance performance.

MadMike, plastic shield? Is my truck missing something? I know there are some things missing off the truck, but is that one of them? Alot of guys on here say these things don't work, but my truck doesn't dart back and forth anymore,so I think they work great.

Not sure about syclones but i know typhoons came with a plastic skid plate. They break very easily and most trucks do not have them anymore. But mine does along with a cargo net in a leather pouch.

I do have a few of the aluminum skid plates in stock to replace the broken or missing plastic shields. $75.00 + $15.00 shipping in the U.S.

The groaning noise after letting off the brakes sounds like the check valve to the brake booster. Replace it if you have not already.

You might be right. I'll try it. Thanks.

Mike, i'll have to let you drive my truck on the 28th. You think a stabilizer makes a big different, you should see what a 12.7:1 steering box does :D

Yeah, I'll take you up on that. I'd like to experience that. How hard of a install? Cost?

cost is based on however much you find a steering box for and what its out of. Its somewhat of a pain, not really "hard" there is just alot of stuff to move to get it out. Ill show ya at Hooters.

I have the Rancho stabilizer on the '92 Ty... big time improvement especially on the "rutty" roads.
