SY! # 757 want faster!!!

Finaly got a sy. I have been buging my friend to sell me his, but he won't come off it. I love the truck, but I want to make it FASTER!! It's never fast enough... I have a water injection kit I have to put on, any more sugestions. ONLY PROVEN METHOUDS PLEASE!!! I have a chip for it, but the guy I bought it from says it runs better without it?? It has alot of the basic stuff done to it, MSD, Boost controller, exhaust, electric fan, forged pistons, new trans transfer differentials... pretty much all the basics..

Before you go faster, get smarter.

Learn what your truck has now, and get it tuned to its fullest while getting some baseline numbers. Tune, tweak and get your truck running the way it should with the mods it has, only then start thinking about adding more crap to add to the headache...er, i mean go faster.

water injection is good an all, but its dated.... everyone does alky now and there are many chips available to run it from people like Tucker Auto Parts and Phil Long.

you will find alot of proven combos with various dollar amounts spent only to go the same speed and time. the goal is to plan out what you want, to what you might get in the future so you can build on top of your current baseline.

$1000 into your truck can net you 12s. Some people can do it for half that. Its all on how much you know how to tune your truck and its mods.


Your motor already has forged pistons and a rebuilt trans... sounds like one of the previous owners wanted to go fast too and destoryed the motor/trans along the way. You dont find many people who just full out rebuild a motor for no reason... trans on the other hand, yes... since they are one of the biggest weak points.



Read this site.... there is endless helpful info from owners who have been there done that dozens of times over. Learn from thier mistakes and soak in their new findings.

As SYO said, you can dump tons of money into your truck, as well as tons of fuel, but if it isn't tuned it won't be worth it. People have seen improvements performance from simply changing the cap and rotor, properly setting the timing, as well as fuel pressure and boost. Usually for more performance people will go with a larger turbo, external W/G, alky, A/A IC, larger injectors, upgraded fuel pump, AFPR, and a chip. One of the most important things you can do is try to lower the intake temps, because with higher boost comes higher heat, and a higher probability of knock. Good luck:tup:

I am definatly not a rookie to fast cars, just never had a syclone before...
I know I have to tune it... That's why I asked, to find out what programs are better for these trucks... I have LS1 and LT1 Edit, a tuner cat program for a 95 LT1 camaro, BUT I dont belive they are verry good programs for a 91 4.3L...
I know the stock cam SUCKS!!! in the truck, I just don't know what is PROVEN to run better. Thats why I ask.
Water inj: Yes, I know alky is better. more people understand water inj. you say alky and people think funny cars...

The only real "tuning" program that you can use on these trucks is DataMaster, since these trucks utilize a chip instead of a programmable computer (meaning that the chip has to be replaced with one with the desired tuning paramaters)

Actually... TunerPro and TunerCat are very good programs for our trucks if you have the knowhow to change bin files and flash chips.

Stock cam isnt the greatest, but there are trucks out there going low 12s, high 11s on it along with stock bottom end.

Never had a syty before your a rookie.

Seriously this question comes up every 4 hours. Everybody buys one, wants to go faster the next day. It isn't the same as other cars where you can just buy a heads and cam kit and instant 50 more HP. These trucks are all about the combination of parts and how they work.

As mentioned you can get into the 11's on stock cam. Yes it isn't great but there are other more important things first.

Also why would someone put in forged pistons and stock cam anyways? Do you really know what combination you have?

My advice to all new owners is the first 6 months dont' buy anything besides maintenance items. Learn about these trucks first you will thank yourself later.
