Syclone #136

Aeroking

e.i.
Well, i have a small project planned.

First step. Bottom end.

The engine in my truck right now is a late model S-10 4.3L, with stock SyTy top end. The shortblock is a GM crate engine with about 3500 miles on it.

I recently purchased a stock Typhoon shortblock, about 90k on it.

My planned build sheet includes:

- Stock block (to be cleaned and checked)
- Stock crankshaft (possible cryo treatment)
- Melling Oil pump
- Stock mains
- Comp Cams true double roller timing set
- Comp Cams 415 camshaft
- Comp Cams 850 roller lifters
- Eagle H-beam rods
- Speedpro forged aluminum dished pistons
- hardened pushrods
- all ARP hardware
- Solid motor mounts

This will be the first stage. I will get to the top end, and drivetrain later on. Once the shortblock is done, i'll pull the motor outta the truck, and swap the top-end over. It'll be a slow process, caus i dont have all my funds upfront.

But I only wanna pull the motor once, so I'm trying to do this right. I'll probably never break into the low 12s or even 11s, but i wanna be sure my bottom end could go that far.

Edited 4-27-08:

- .030 fully prepped SyTy block
- polished stock crankshaft
- splayed 4-bolt main caps
- ARP hardware
- Melling HV oil pump
- Eagle H-beams

- Comp Pro Magnum 1.6 rockers
- 875 lifters

Re: Syclone #136

I see you cleaned off all the dog hair :rotf: I was always thinking about keeping it, but since my ty has so many miles it really doesnt matter anyway to have the orginal block to be worth anything, plus id rather see it put to good use than sitting under my desk collecting dog hair

Re: Syclone #136

its down to bare block, and tomorrow, i'm taking it in to be cleaned, magnafluxed, deck leveled, have freeze plugs, and cam bearings installed.

dismantling it, i found that the bolts on the main caps were only finger tight.

Re: Syclone #136

I actually dont own one, just borrowed a friends if I ever needed it, I do have a tranny jack you could borrow though, finally done putting my new torque converter in. One problem though got all done with the typhoon and I was tightening up the propshaft bolts and one of them broke in half :squint: and now its stuck in there so im kinda screwed right now, im gonna make a another thread and post some pics to see if anyone has some ideas.

Re: Syclone #136

I was tempted to drive it in rwd but I figured I might as well just wait until I get the propshaft back in.

Good idea!!!

i'm a little worried about clearance on the turbo.

i wanna put A/C back on it, cause it was horribly hot without it.

I'm not sure if the PT63E has enough clearance for the A/C compressor.

i'm making a custom SS downpipe once i get the turbo, but I'm just wondering if it'll clear.

if not, i'll have to come up with like a turbo/exhaust manifold spacer, to push it farther from the engine.

Re: Syclone #136

and the obvious question, that no one wants to answer.

What do ya think it'll run.

DR's will be my last mod. It slides all over the place now, i can't imagine it once i'm done.

Re: Syclone #136

well, H-beams are on backorder worldwide. so that gives me time to gather the misc parts i need.

also time to boost the front end handling a bit with a ZQ8 box, and a new idler/pitman arms. while the motor is out.
