Are you comparing cops to Hitler? If so that is pretty ****ing retarded. Let me ask you something, would you feel better abotu things if we had no cops?

My Hitler comment was in response to the post prior to mine and the erosion of rights brought about by our elected officials. It never even occurred to me that it could be taken as a comparison to the police. Hitler basically fired the police and put his own guys in charge.
That shows more about how you think than me. And I find it offensive. I in no way shape or form said anything about the police in that post. I specifically mentioned elected twice. How you can infer police harassment from that is beyond me. You might want to finish the morning caffeine intake before posting.
You keep using valid legal reasons for the police actions against you as a reason to allow them to harass you or others. It doesn't make sense.

Re: This is for those that get harassed by the cops...

Apparently you don't have a problem with people of authority doing things that are against the constitution......
The point was not about criminals being treated in a lawful manner. Meaning they did something to warrant the conducting of a search.
It was for the simple traffic infraction getting blown out of proportion and an illegal search being conducted simply because the victim of the search didn't know any better.
Just because you have a Laissez-faire attitude toward people who abuse their authority doesn't mean others should too or that it's the right thing to do. Some people actually feel that standing up for their/your rights is patriotic.

Think about it. If they ask if they can search, they don't have cause.....that's why they ask.

Window tint- pretty simple. Next time your at the mall have a look at all the cars. How many have aftermarket tint? Now go to the local police station and have a look at all the police personal vehicles.
This is especially true in the sunny states......

Tinted windshields..... I bet they don't speed. I can't stand tinted front and rear. Makes it so I can't see the police:D

LMAO. I take it you are not a cop. I ask everyone that I stop if I can search their car. Even if I already have grounds to do so and even if I do not intend on searching it. Then I gauge their reaction and next move to see if I can learn anything from it. Another part of my stop is to ask if they've been drinking and if they have anything in the car I need to know about. Do they have any illegal drugs or weapons.

This is all part of my job, and if you don't like it, then you don't care much about a lawful, safe society. I have asked people if they have a gun and been told "yes".

Any cop worth a damn will be able to articulate in his paperwork the justification for whatever they did. If they don't, they are just inexperienced or don't care.

I've been on the street for 13 years. I've seen most and done most. Of course there is good and bad, and their are exceptions, but I can speak from first hand experience.

While I'm at it, another one of my favorites is when everyone bitches about cops getting special treatment from other cops. Its called professional courtesy and it exists in just about every profession. I'd like to see how long a staff doctors injured child would wait in the emergency room or even how long a shop mechanics wife would wait in line to get her car fixed. I don't know who else would do it, but if I'm off duty driving by an on duty officer that is in trouble, I am stopping and doing whatever it takes to help him. And I am armed with the equipment and experience to do it.

Once again..... I did not make this post to piss people off by any means.. All I was doing was providing a little information to people who have that one officer that is constantly harassing you whenever he can for absolutely no reason...

I have nothing against them. They hang out at my shop on a daily basis. I have tinted most of their cars. I guess I am lucky that I live in a city where they are actually pretty darn nice...

Re: This is for those that get harassed by the cops...

Here is a first hand example of the nonsense argument about people getting their rights violated. It proves that 99% of the time the only ones that complain about it are the criminals. I will go into detail to avoid any confusion.

I'm in full uniform and in a fully marked scout car. I am driving southbound down a street at 3:30am and I pass an individual on the west side of the street who is walking northbound on the sidewalk. As I pass, I notice the individual has both hands by his waistband. After I pass, I observe in my rear view mirror that the individual has turned his head around to look in my direction while continuing to walk northbound. At this point, I do a u-turn. The individual immediately stars running northbound. I follow around 2 corners at which time the individual runs into a yard towards a 6 ft wooden privacy fence. I exit my scout car and follow on foot. The individual jumps the privacy fence into the back yard of the residence. I jump the fence. As the individual is approaching the rear of the yard, he throws a .45 Nickel Plated Semi-Auto to the ground. I then apprehend the individual and arrest for ccw. I recover the weapon and place it on evidence and finish my paper.

In court, the defense counsels only argument was that I was violating the perps rights by chasing him. He specifically asked me numerous times if I yelled "Stop Police!" or identified myself. I said "no". The defense counsel contended that I had no justification or reason to chase his client. Well, he was right, I DIDNT! Why? Because (like the judge made clear) I didnt need any justification or reason. I can run, walk, approach, be etc., anywhere in the city just like the perp could. I can follow him if I want, just like any of you could. I had no cause to arrest until I saw him throw the gun. At that point, I had probable cause to arrest and did so.

If he did not have a gun on him, he had nothing to worry about, but he did so now I violated his rights.

Thats cool and fine. Its all really simple. If you feel you are being harassed, make a complaint with the officers superior. If that doesn't satisfy you, sue the officer and department. Those are your recourses.

No comments on the "quota"???
The final straw with me was when I had a cop get in my face yelling and spitting while asking if the motorcycle was mine 3x. -prior to looking at the paperwork- His partner gave him a wtf look. All my stuff was in order. All I'd done was 70 in a 55 out in the middle of the desert. No disrespect, just simple yes/no answers. They were so far behind me I didn't know they were back there. Apparently he thought I was running or IDK. Just riding normal. Normal on an 1100cc ricer is considerably faster than most cars....

If you've ever had to go through a border check daily like the one on I-5 in Socal you'd get tired of all the "random" crap they do too.

Re: This is for those that get harassed by the cops...

This is definitely an interesting thread. I am pleasantly surprised that a lot of the posts have been pretty accurate (and opinionated of course!) Everyone has the right to their own opinion and I respect that. Being a police officer, I of course am most often going to side with the law. I want my family and friends to be safe and not be victimized by someone that should not be roaming free to terrorize society. I will voluntarily give up a right or two if it means my loved ones are safer. Following 9/11, I was never bothered by the stricter security restrictions that were in place because our society needed it to feel safe.

I was confused by the beginning of Upgrades post above "No comments on the "quota"?" What did you mean by that?

You might want to someone else what to do jerky. I am surprised to see you are 42 years old, the way your outlook lies on things I would have thought you were about 18. Sounds to me like you have a guilty conscience and maybe even have authority issues. I personally know when I am doing something wrong and always take responsibility for my actions and don't blame others. If you were speeding you were speeding. SO what if the cop was a dick to you, judging by your attitude here I'd bet a few bucks you deserved it. At any rate, I really didn't know what your Hitler comment was about so that was why I asked, if you are going to be a dick, I suggest you find yourself a wet pussy, hop inside and take a break from real for a while. Maybe it will give everyone a chance to forget about you.

Mike, I rememebr those posts about you being pulled over because of your exhaust:p, just seems like yesterday... Glad you've simmerd since then;) Really, there are arrogant, nice, pleasant, mean, happy, respectful, a$$holes, friendly, two faced, considerate people in every field. Weather it may be a fast food drive through window worker, lawyer(hey, there's a few good ones:p), Walmart greeter, doctor or a law enforcement officer. I've never been pulled over for no reason. I did have a officer stop at my house to talk about the GN and why it was so loud(dump pipe). I was outside checking tire pressure on the DR's. We had a nice long talk. He asked if maybe we'll see how the GN does against his Charger (in a joking but serious way). I said "maybe well see";) ANyway, I always try to wave when I pass a patrol car(state, city or sheriff). I really do appreciate what they do(not trying to be a kissa$$). Do they wave back,,,, almost never,,,,they probably wern't expecting it. All in all, I guess I'm just lucky not to have ever been stopped for no reason.:2cents:

What's funny is all the cops in my little town wave at me. I've come to the conclusion that someone on the force drives a Blazer like mine. First, I thought it was just because I was in a truck/suv.....nope. I was behind a Dodge Ram one day and the officer didn't wave to the truck, but made it a point to wave at me. It's kinda wierd.

I am with you 100%. I have met some slime ball cops but I have also met some that I would hang out with on weekends. A lot of times I tell a funny joke when I get pulled over, lets the cop know you aren't one of those guys always bitching about your rights, tells him your a person just like him. Good example is one time I was working for this landscape company. I was flying 71 in a 50. I see this motorcycle cop clock and me and put his gun away. So I pull over with out making him chase me down, about 1000 feet from where he was. He comes up to my window and was kind of an ass at first and said, do you know how fast you were going? I said well, I was going to out run you but I didn't want to embarrass you in front of your friends back there (there were three other bike cops). Needless to say he starts cracking up since I am sitting in a pick up truck and comes back with my ticket. He gave me 51 in a 50:D From that day on, I saw cops differently. Not because of the lesser ticket, but because they aren't these statues or mindless troops so many people make them out to be. The cop that towed my truck seriously made me want to sell my Typhoon. But at the end of the day, it was ME who made me want to sell my Typhoon. I know the law and what it says and when I put that exhaust on my truck I knew it wasn't legal. I will still have my exhaust on my truck because it is me, apart of who I am. I will except the tickets with a smile and the consequences that come with it. Even when I am speeding and get a ticket, I always just fess up and make the job easier, hell, whats easier for them is easier for me.

Only thing I might have to disagree on is drive through people, I would say for the most part fast food workers (80%?) are tards and just don't give a shit how messed up your order is.

And I am armed with the equipment and experience to do it.

Just because there is special treatment in professions does not make it right or lawful to do so. If the wrong person sees the special treatment of a doctors child and allows them to get care before someone who was in the E.R first there will be a law suit and if I'm the lawyer, going to wipe the floor with the case. That includes any profession where anyone gets special treatment. It is not expected or legal for any of that junk. Since when is one persons life worth more then someone else.

That is awesome, I was not going to post back in here. The main point of this thread was talking about our rights as citizens. I'm a law abiding citizen with a conceal permit, and if I'm asked if I have a firearm or weapon I simply put my hands on the steering wheel and respectfully tell them I have a legal firearm with all documentation. Normally they ask for the weapon, I give it to them. They check my I.D., my paper work and I'm back on the road in 5 minutes.

Now, here is where the problem comes in. I was driving my friend back to his house around 3am from the bar. He called me around 2am and told me he was to drunk to drive. Since I know he would of picked me up, I did the same for him. Told the wife I'm picking up my best friend so he doesn't drive and end up killing someone or himself. I pick him up and a police vehicle follows me from the town area almost all the way home. As soon as we near the next jurisdiction border he pulls me over. I told him the truth, and immediately things turned ugly.

The stop turned into a total nightmare. I roll down my window about an inch, its windy as hell out. The police officer takes my information and comes back to the window. He asks me to roll down my window all the way. I respectfully ask him if he is detaining me or I'm I free to go because my wife and children are at home in bed, and I would like to get back to sleep. I said if I did not commit a crime and I'm not getting a ticket I would like to leave. He got bent out of shape and asked me to step out of the vehicle. At this point I tell him he needs to properly identify himself as a officer. I ask for his name and badge number. Keep in mind, I was pulled over for no reason. So after I get the information I ask him if I can document why he pulled me over. He told me I was steering erratically and all over the road. Which was a 100% lie, and just a reason to pull me. I write it down and tell him I don't feel comfortable getting out of the vehicle and I would like to speak to his supervisor. Sure enough, 5 minutes later another police officers arrives. Comes up to the other side of the window. They are shinning their lights in and looking around. At this point the officer tell me I have to step out of the vehicle because he sees drug paraphernalia. It was an empty juice can from my daughter. It was silver in color and I guess looked like a beer can. I ask the officer permission to get the can, and tell him I'll get out if he allows me to get the can. He gives me a hard time, and tells me he knows I have been drinking and that he can smell it. I get the can and open the door. The shinny silver can with a Elmo and Big Bird on the can made me chuckle. At this point he has me out of the vehicle so he can do a search on me as the person. However, he has no true reason to search my car, and was totally using his authority and crossing the line. It gets worse. He never asks me permission to search me as a person. He just asks me to turn around and put my hands up into the air. At this point, I thought I better put all the cards out on the table and tell him when he searches me, he will find a legal weapon, and with that legal weapon he will find all the correct and lawful documentation. He asks me where it is, I tell him. He reaches in my jacket, (my carry jacket) and gets the firearm out. The cop begins to yell at me, pointing in my face I should of told him about this right away. He never asked, and I don't have to tell him by law in PA. Then he tells me I should have this taken from me because its loaded. Again, my gun stays loaded, and ready to fire. That is my right, no one can take that away from me. I did not break any laws, and I make it clear to him I did not break any laws. he goes back to his car, unloads the gun which is normal. Its for safety. The other officer did not say much. Then he tells me I have to do a physical salubrity test. I pass it, and he tells me I failed and need the breathalyzer. I'm fine with it. After passing the breathalyzer twice, he finally allows me to get back in the car. Later he comes back with a ticket for my exhaust. Which I later won in court because it was 50-state legal with a sticker under my hood which I tried to show him, and he refused. He also gave back my firearm and yelled some more about having my gun loaded and how unsafe it is. I told him I have just as much if not more training with a pistol then he did. I told him the ticket will be thrown out of court and he better learn to have some respect for law abiding citizens, because some of us know our rights. I said have a nice night. Few months later the ticket was revoked by the Judge and I spoke with his supervisor. I told them I won't take further action if they tell the jerk of a cop to start following the laws he enforces.

Now I know some people are going to think he had good reason to act like that, but for us who know and understand our rights in America and don't want to get stomped on by authority and government will agree with me. Since when can I not pick up my friend from the bar, doing a good deed as we should all do for our friends, then I have to put up with that? Hell no. I don't think so. When injustice becomes law, Rebellion becomes duty!

And I know not all cops are like this, I have many friends in uniform. For the ones that are like that, I won't put up with it, and neither should you.

I've frequently heard people lament about the police having monthly quota's on the number of tickets they write since the tickets are a revenue stream for the local gov. I was told by an officer that some officers have a personal goal (quota) of so many felony type stops.

OK, I wasn't sure. Of course, some communities depend on ticket revenue to fund some of the services that are provided for that city. Luckily, my department does not have quotas. Really, they are unwritten "suggestions" that officers should maintain. They cannot require you to write a certain amount or you can grieve it with the union.

Personal goals are positive things. I have always looked for stolen cars and twice received an award for making the most occupied stolen vehicle recoveries in my state. I focused on it and worked very hard at it. I don't see anything negative about it. I am in supervision now and I appreciate self-motivated officers that go out and work hard. Whether it is to make extra money by going to court, fulfilling their responsibilities as a law enforcement officer or an ego thing...it does not matter to me as long as they are doing their job well and working hard.

The only thing I can say is that some of the things that you said sound to me like you are asking for the fight, so you will get it. As with every interaction in our lives, if you are looking for an argument, you will get one. Quite often, it is easier and smarter in the long run to just do things the easy way and comply. Don't let arrogance or "the right to fight" get in the way of everyones safety.

When I do a traffic stop, it is done one way - my way. Why? Because I am going home in the morning. I will run things and make the orders in a lawful manner, but officers safety is first. 99% of the time, the court will back an officer that is acting for his safety. Tinted windows, an unknown weapon in the car....HUGE dangers to an officers safety. A simple request to have someone roll down the windows will be backed up by a court of law once the officer explains why.

There is NO reason that you should not let an officer that has stopped you know that you have a weapon. Luckily, my state requires it immediately. If yours doesn't fine, but for your safety I would suggest you do. What is the negative about it. God forbid you reach in the backseat for that can and your clothing rearranges so that you concealed weapon becomes visible. Then its ON and you'll be reeling to get out the fact you have a ccw permit when you could have politely made the officer aware of it in the first place.

Your "nightmare" stop did not have to go that way. You chose for it to go that way by your actions. You could have avoided all you wasted time that night and the time you wasted going to court. But atleast you proved your point, good for you. And the part about rebellion becoming your duty, I won't even comment on that. It's up to our elected officials to take care of that part.

Re: This is for those that get harassed by the cops...

OK, Whether it is to make extra money by going to court, fulfilling their responsibilities as a law enforcement officer or an ego thing...it does not matter to me as long as they are doing their job well and working hard.

So it's ok with you if one of your officers gets in someones face and gives them some attitude when they are cooperating with all orders and only giving yes/no answers.

I'll admit I've had no instances like above now that they have in car computers.
My last speeding ticket had an older officer who was starting to give me some attitude (which I ignored) and he was very polite on his return with my ticket after seeing the blank no ticket for 10 yrs record. He thought (we) were racing in my Z71 and the other guys loaded down S10 when actually one lane was going away at the edge of town and we both sped up to be first.
I imagine the in car camera and better pre employment testing has weeded out the blatant offenders too.

We've all seen the outrageous behavior display by some during a traffic stop and how calm and polite for the circumstances the officer is. But they were on camera too.

Basically the phishing expedition some officers are on when they walk up to the window is my complaint.

Thats fine, but no, that is not my idea of working hard and doing their job well.

Re: This is for those that get harassed by the cops...

You didn't understand my Hitler post so you write I'm retarded. When you don't understand something you assume the other person is retarded. ...... WOW...... you have a pretty high opinion of yourself.

Yes, I do. You should note that I did not call you retarded. I said if that was what you meant, you were retarded. So what if I didn't get what you were saying, you seem like kind of an ass to me so I didn't really spend much time on your Hitler comment.

I tell you to have some morning caffeine and you call me a jerk and a dick. But I act like I'm 18....

Yes, this is true.

Feel free to quote where I denied responsibility. My point is that some police abuse their power.

Well, it is not so much that you said you were irresponsible, I mean, irresponsible people never really admit it anyways, it is more or less your semi-rebellious attitude, at least that's the way I read you. I do not know you in person let alone do I care to, you have just presented an image to me of the kind of person who thinks everything is everyone elses fault when in reality you just have a hard time looking in the mirror.

Yes, some police abuse their power, so what, a lot of people in a lot of fields abuse their power. I don't think it is right but wtf are you going to do about it? As long as there is realistically nothing you can do about it, why bitch? Where will it get you? Like I said before, go on with your day and keep your blood pressure down:tup:

Saying someone deserves it because you automatically assume they do (reading into it again)
shows your inability to see this subject from any perspective but your own.

I can see the perspective of all involved. Doesn't mean I have to agree with you. I actually respect your opinion on the subject, just think your attitude sucks.

Authority issues- yep you got it- and I have a legal right too. That's what a lot of posts in this thread are about. You know the ones with all the big words your too lazy to google.

You are so powerful with your legal right to be a rebel (at heart it seems) I think I want to vote for you as our next president, you could really turn things around.

What words were big so far? I don't think you know me at all to say weather or not I am lazy, you know nothing about me. I have had a very eventful life, was an athlete, spent some time as a rebel (so to speak), worked my ass for 8 years as a landscaper, went out on my own and built my business from the ground up, own a Typhoon that normally runs( lets see most people do that the way I beat mine up). I'm far from lazy. Maybe about thoroughly looking over your Hitler comment but like I said before, who cares? It's not like I had accused you of anything, you just seemed to take it that way because you saw the word retard like I saw the word Hitler in a post about police unfairness.

Guilty conscience- no, that's you reading into things again based on
I'm glad you got your shit straight.

No, actually, I was reading in to the way you think about the whole thing. Your rights are one thing, what about the short amount of time you have on this earth? It always amazes me the things people want to spend their time on, kind of like me having this ridiculous conversation with you:lol:

Myself, I've never been a criminal so for some reason I object to being treated like one.

Thank you. I'm glad you never walked down that road, it is not fun and when you realize what you have really done to others and yourself, it really changes your life and your outlook on things. I cherish everyday I live and I cherish my freedom. Brushing up against the law to prove a point to me just isn't worth my time or my sanity. At the end of the day, we are not really free, I have come to accept this as fact. The only way around this is to go live in the forest or dessert somewhere where no one can tell you what to do. You can tell anyone all you want that no one can tell you what to do, but not doing what you are told or expected can have serious consequences, I am sure I don't have to tell you this. So I guess you could say I see it from the point that why do ANYTHING to jeopardize my well being or even my day?
