Driving and truck just stopped.

Key on no power. No crank no turn signals or hazards??!

Checking fuses things look good.

Any one have any ideas I'm about to call for a tow

Sure dont look good.

Checked all the fuses, Went under the hood checked battery cables, wiggled them. Got my hand to the starter wiggled that checked all. Everything was good. looked under hood again and for some reason I checked the fuse by the alternator knowing it could be blown. For some reason I dug further into it and revealed the problem.

Keep in mind the truck just shut down completely no sign of stalling or indicators. Broke down at a popular bagel hut at the wrong time as it was already jam-packed and my truck breaking down right in the middle of the entrance/exit/drive thru really put a cork on the morning.

Orange wire seperated

un did some of the tape and the black wire broke.

Going to try and dig up my magic wand see if I can fix this.

It appears that those wires may have been cut and butt-spliced back together. If that's case I'm not surprised that they failed. I'd solder, heatshrink, and tape everything back together..

Yup some one already hacked into it.

My best guess is it made contact with the valve cover and heated up.

Trying to get back far enough into the harness now to make a good splice. The one black wire came off and its other end is buried in the harness/loom.

That exact same thing happend to me. It sucked big time cause I was 2 blocks from my house and I had to get a tow. It was a small climb and at night. No one around to help me push. Turned out to be that same fuse near the alternator. It was melted to shits. Re'did everything and turned on and never again. Also looked like it had been messed with before.

Re: truck just died

It wasn't the fuse itself. Or those wires. It was the orange and black wires with a terminal off the back of the alternator. Its right there with the fuse holder but after probing around I revealed brittle high heat damaged plastic tube stuff that just crumbled and the wire was under that. Trying to work the tape off I snapped the other connection. I was able to get I to the harness and solder/shrink tube it back together.

Yes any break down sucks. I had 2 guys offer to help and than another guy ran over like it was a big emergency...and was asking me if I need gas I just laughed and said no its something else but he offered to push as well.

Just tested it out and the truck starts.

Oh ok.. Well it's good to know that stuff like that happens in that core of wiring. Mine was the red wire. Must be the heat from the valve covers like you mentioned.
