Re: Two different shots of two different 11 sec runs
Past performance is not a guarantee of future or present capability.
What I admire about Don's program is that every time he backs his truck out of the garage, it is very likely to be capable of the previous benchmark, no-excuses, performance it has achieved in the past. Numerous time per year, year after year.
This is what I meant by "consistency". Not a grouping of 5 runs within 2 tenths (although I feel this too is in the top-percentile of achievement on here at any ET).
Thanks Larry for the link to your effort to summarize all the quick trucks and achievements. Some of those names and trucks have been gone for 15 years. I suspect many of those are all time highs, and were never repeated. NOT taking away for the handful of trucks on that list that are still active, but how many have turned a pass lately that are comparable to the all time high on the list, or can even be driven under their own power this afternoon? Not many. That's my point.
I also think my distinction between race-trucks and street-driven trucks was overlooked.
I like high performance street-cars and trucks. I've owned big blocks, Corvettes, and muscle continuously for over 45 years. I demand that my cars perform every time I drive them. A high 11-second car on the street is far and few between, much less the driver being capable of extracting such performance from the car (in the case of exotics, and other "magazine-tested" sub 12-second cars). If anyone were to punch-off against Don's Sy at a light, they better be in something capable of running 11.8, because its a pretty safe bet that don's truck will. I posit that a SyTy that has run a 10 in its past, won't run a 10 every time their owner puts his foot down. Especially on the street.
Don's is now capable of high-11 performance.. And he's been doing it, and sharing his experiences with us for years. That's the crux of my admiration for his achievement, and why I wished to share that feeling with y'all.
That's it. No disrespect whatsoever towards those that have gone quicker.
