Ty ties a '98 Cherokee...Help!!!!

The shit's hit the fan now. My roomate just got a '98 Jeep Cherokee, completely stock, and we did an 1/8 drag...he hung with me the whole time. The boost sounded horrible, she's hurt...If anyone can help me out I wouldn't cry myself to sleep. I'm gonna take a datamaster run tonight, I'm sad.

nah... you got a sick truck man. check your datamaster and see whats up... one of my first kills in my sy was a brand new cherokee with the 8. i gave him a headstart, didnt launch, and still flew bye. and that was with no mods at all.

My laptop took a shit on me so it's gonna be at least until tomorrow until I can get a datamaster run. It's my roomate's jeep, it's a 98 cherokee 4.0L, not the 5.9 or even an 8. That's how I know I own the slowest Ty right now.

Could be a million things.Have you changed plugs/wires/cap & rotor? Does it "ping" when you get on it? What gas are you using? Do you have a boost gauge?
If you could narrow it down for the guys,I'm sure we'll figure it out.

I just changed my cap and rotor (conrad) I have atr black beauty plug wires, and i'm gonna be putting in some ngk iridium plugs in, in about a week. I can't hear any pinging, I'm using 91 octane w/104+ booster...bozeman doesn't have anything higher than 91. I have the stock boost gauge, it's a done deal, it either shows all or nothing, so I just try to ignore it. I'm slowly redoing my electrical system and fuel system, all should be done in about two weeks.

So maybe you got a boost leak? Have you tried the bicycle tube test yet? Could be a clogged fuel filter or cat converter.
Your truck should rape that Jeep.I had a L35 Sonoma that would pull 10 lenghths on a "HO" 4 liter Jeep.

was it a 4.0 5.3 or the 5.9......

I can see a 5.9 being a close race if you didnt spool up on the launch...

I don't know. I've never raced or drove a 5.9, but it shouldn't be a problem. AFAIR remeber it was advertised as 237HP and ~4000lbs. I could remeber a test where they were doing some 8.2sec from 0-100kmh. Well... A Sonoma in good shape could handle this.

the 5.9 iu think has alot more horse power than 237..... its a 360 and i heard it comes factory in the ball park of 300 hp. if he got a chip, could add probally 50 more. there are sytys that arent modded that dont have 350 hp.

I fell in love with the 5.9 before I got the Ty, and I gotta tell ya that thing is a monster. 245hp/345tq. No match for the phoon, but it'll blow the doors off most other suvs. But my roomate's jeep is a 4.0ho 98 cherokee...straight six. I took my truck into get it's electrical system checked out and am having the guys do a full tune-up. The compression test was good, fuel pressure was good, vacuum test was good, the map sensor said that I had high vacuum and the turbo wouldn't push more than 3psi. He replaced the map sensor and now it pushes 13.5.
It still runs like shit though, I'll tell you where it started, me changing my starter, battery, cap & rotor, and coil. Apparently I'm less mechanically inclined than I once thought. But could I have really fucked up my truck that much? I'll be in touch with the mechanic this weekend and keep you guys posted. Thanks for the replies though, I need all the help I can get.

Oh yeah, I checked every single plug 4 times. I even the plug wires around a bit, because I've heard of some sy/ty's that need this done...no luck. Apparently when I changed my cap & rotor I must have knocked off a vacuum hose. when I fired it up massive amounts of carbon came out my exhaust pipe...all the plugs got fouled, and the plugs on the passenger side were soaked with gas. Even after the plugs were changed it still runs like garbage.
