WANTED: 4L80E documentation

if any of you have your install guides, notes or any other info on the 4L80e installs, rebuilds, upgrades etc please email me any documentation you may have.

I am trying to archive as much info as possible and after multiple requests of those that have installed an 80e I have yet to see an install guide.

with GB bowing out of the community I think its a valuable resource that we need to archive as much of as possible.

Thanks to any who contribute.
If you contribute something worth while I might even have a special SyTy surprise for you in return.

Re: WANTED: 4L80E documentation

Jas, I have some information on 700 rebuilds, notes, build sheets, part#'s, etc. I think its ridiculous that someone "mandate" you use one vendor, doesn't ensure much of a good future for this community IMO.

<little shameless plug>It would be extremely valuable to have videos and I have this group setup on TuneyFish, http://www.tuneyfish.com/groups_show.php?id=30I've put a link back to this thread.</plug>

The thing that makes it cool is you don't have to do one huge complete video, it can be a collection of good clips with the value in having them all in one group.

If we can get some content going, I'd be happy to talk to potential sponsors, Fairbanks, Dacco, Transtar, etc. to see if they would give discounts to those who are active group members. They may also sponsor contests.

I believe in the DIY approach helping support newbies with the tools / videos / guides to aid them in the process. You can see the DIY resources are strong in Tuning, with Moates, code59, etc. There is no reason why it can't include transmissions.

Re: WANTED: 4L80E documentation

Has there been any headway on anyone making an install/parts guide in all located in one place?

Re: WANTED: 4L80E documentation

I wrote an install thread when I did mine - as a follow up from my post above...

Will post the link.

In addition, I think that 4L80Es are such significant mods that there should either be a sticky with all the info (shameless plug for my write up ) or we should have a separate 4L80E forum.

Re: WANTED: 4L80E documentation

am betting 4L60 (E)

Google the fvehicle type and transmission options.

Look on the casing for a serial number and google that.

or post pics and someone can help you out.

4l60-e, I had one. I don't think they came from the factory with the 80-e in it.

Didn't that get deleted? For some reason I thought he took all of his information with him on the way out.

Its all ABOOT the SYTY eh
Re: WANTED: 4L80E documentation

I have backed up most(some links don't work) of his forum before it got 'deleted' since I knew that I would need it when I go through the process of installing my 4l80e. Though I am not sure if its allowed to be hosted since it was removed/deleted here?!?!?!?

You could but would you want to? What is it for - same scenarios as a SYTY - people make do with a 700R4 (4l60) but when that breaks they sometimes upgrade to the 80E.

More expense, parts, etc etc. So you could but it depends.

What is it for?

Re: WANTED: 4L80E documentation

i wasnt sure, for some reason i thought the 4l60E out of my police caprice would have been stronger than the 700r4 thats in these trucks. I dont much much about transmissions and which are stronger, other than the 80's are tougher than the 60's. The 4l60 seems pretty tough, shifted hard and never slipped pulling that 5000 pound car around. But i could prolly sell it and get an 80 if i ever did the conversion.

Re: WANTED: 4L80E documentation

Your "police caprice" 9C1 (code for police model) does have a 4L60E. Im not sure why you would need much else but im not too familiar with these trucks (YET!):p I Have an impala ss (same as 9c1 pretty much) and have quite extensive mods with a 4L60E. There are guys on the forum running up to 600 HP with those trannys as well. Im not saying that the 4L80 isnt a better option but depending on what you are doing and how much HP you are running i think you can get away with the 4L60E.

Well after all of that said, what all is involved in swapping over to a 4L80? Brackets? Who makes them?

Thanks guys -Josh

The problem isn't the HP, it's the torque and AWD. A mildly built motor and moderate turbo making 500+ hp also will be putting out 700ft-lbs of torque. AWD also add that more rotational mass, so that also amplifies the problem.
